It’s very easy to anticipate what a typical Reddit response would be to this. Something along the lines of “It’s because of the history of colonialism there under white people who made the Africans inferior/slaves and pushed their Christian values on them and now that is why they hate gays.”

You can almost always blame colonialism, slavery, or white supremacy (tm) in situations where their world view might be challenged. Ideally, you’d use all three.
