Nah that's typical for a Pokemon cycle. If you mean too soon development-wise, it's kind of hard to tell unless we have details about when production started.

Those boxarts are a nice improvement from Sword and Shield.
just to side tangent on Arceus' box art but man the sense of scale it has with mount coronet looming in the background, the water color asthetic, it makes me happy that GF are focusing on this instead of a standard by the numbers Gen 4 remake

Even if this game is just basically BoTW but with Pokemon it will be a blast to play. I'm still incredibly skeptical of GF, and want to see a more in depth gameplay trailer. We still don't even know what the driving point of the game is.

Our best guess is sometime in line with the development of Pokemon HOME, as that is when Ilca got involved. That was announced mid-2019 and released early 2020 - it's no unreasonable to guess development started in either 2017 or 2018.

Before that, ILCA was involved with the development of Nier Automata (released early 2017), and Code Vein (released Sep. 2019). Game development companies like to have multiple projects running at the same time so there's no downtime between projects, so we can assume that the most likely time they started working on Pokemon was between early 2017 and mid-late 2019 - giving Home a roughly 1-2 year development time, and SDBP roughly 3-4 years. I feel like there's a lot of overlap, probably by design - they use the same style in both of their Pokemon projects.

This timeline would also line up with:
- switch's release and Breath of the Wild, which looks to be an inspiration for Arceus. As I’ve said before, I think Arceus was originally an open-world remake of DP before it started deviating too far and got split into the two projects.
- the development time of Sword and Shield (which was just under 3 years).
And probably other stuff too.
 
Just finished an impromptu replay of OG Blue version on my 3DS after watching OneyPlay's LP of it this past week while I was sick with a fever (mostly had it for background noise). Accordingly, instead of spending inordinate amounts of time coming up with meaningful names like I usually would I just went with whatever nonsense popped into my head at the time, hence wonders like Scrungulio the Venusaur and Bzzybop the Magneton. Quite refreshing.

I can still scarcely believe these games are what kicked off the franchise though, goddamn what a mess. Still hold the theory that it was really the hyper-aggressive marketing and general encircling paraphernalia (anime, TCG, other spin-off games like Stadium) that pushed things forward and not so much the games on their own.

In Japan, it was over a year before the Anime, TCG, and other things came out, and those only came to be due to Red and Green being a very big successes both critically and financially, which neither Game Freak nor Nintendo thought they would be(Especially since those games were in a 6 year development hell that caused a large chunk of Game Freak staff to quit). Also reminder that the Japanese Red and Green had both worse graphics and more game-breaking glitches then the US Red and Blue versions.

The games don't hold up to modern standards, but if you enter the mindset of a Japanese child in 1996, they were quite groundbreaking.

I'll give them this - the boxart is miles better than SWSH. It's a nice change from just slapping official art on the box and calling it a day.

I'm honestly conflicted - on one hand I want to give the DP remakes a chance considering another company took it on board but I also know Masuda had his grimy hands on it too and I've been let down enough times to not get the games on release date any longer (as well as the fear that Masuda added his trademark shiny lock to the starters and catchable legendaries because why give full odds hunters a fun challenge, am I right?).
 
Would it be worth getting a switch for the Diamond and Pearl Remakes?
I doubt the Mystery zone will even be a part of the game as a debug area for anything outside the map and just be a literal void.

If you want what seems to be 1:1 remake on newer hardware and is capable of being played on a TV, then go for it.

I myself never buy a new system for just one game, I at least need 5 exclusive games that I personally consider to be must-haves(And worth playing from beginning to end) before forking out the money. Said games also must already be released, since you never know when a game will be cancelled or end up completely different from what the pre-release trailers had shown(Look at all of those people that got an Xbox One solely for Scalebound only for it to be cancelled)

Good Point. Though its not really a 1:1 remake, more of a remaster since the original is all in 3d but the camera was angled to look 2D most of the time.

I mean, in the broad sense yes, but one of the strongest pieces of the series has always been that PvE and PvP are equally viable off the same system, combined with great character design (even if it's not always backed up by great character art, but if Touhou can do it, Pokemon certainly could to begin). It's a system that adapts very easily to additional mechanics and new Pokemon, allowing for a system to grow steadily in complexity, for fans to add on whatever they want, it's really robust.

Not to mention, if someone had just finished Blue, their first game ever, and you gave them sword and shield, they'd be able to play the game still, 20 years later. If you tried to play a digimon game from today after last having played one in the 1990s, you'd have a very different experience.

The tamer and Rocket classes make sense, but it looks really weird with everyone else.

It's a bit of a leftover from the original Capsule Monsters concept. Originally instead of Badges determining obedience, it was a Charisma stat the trainer had, so they were like lion tamers trying to convince them to do things.

That reminds me, I somehow managed to find a shiny Giratina in my latest playthrough of Platinum. Would be a shame if it were impossible for me to do the same with Palkia in Shining Pearl.

I know, right? I remember hunting for my shiny Giratina a couple of years ago and the adrenaline rush I got when golden dragon Hades slid across the screen was amazing. Shiny legendaries are, nine times out of ten, a wonderful experience to find - especially if you're only 12 or 13 like I was when I got a shiny Registeel in Emerald. It saddens me that kids who only know about the newer games aren't allowed to have this experience with the box legendaries (idk if they shiny locked any of the others in SWSH because I've avoided them like the plague). At the very least the remakes gave the 3D models their colours back - they always looked like they'd been left to bleach in the sun.

Speaking of which, I love how shiny Zygarde looks, kinda stupid how it was locked behind an event for such a long time. Only the story-relevant legendaries are shiny locked in SwSh.

I kind of envy you, because shiny Giratina is pretty kickass. Did you find it on your first try, or did you soft-reset to find it?

I never have the patience to soft reset for shinies. I once tried it for a shiny Aipom in Diamond on a honey tree, and after a half an hour, I couldn't take it anymore.
