It is precisely self loathing. There is no "primary" gender dysphoria with these people. It's always secondary, i.e induced by other mental disorders or environmental pressures and influences. The lifelong "classic" troon who wants to be the opposite sex of their own accord is very rare (and I don't condone those people trooning out either for the most part).
A lot of these mentally ill teenage girls and women want to be male because they see it as a way to become what they are attracted to (most of them are straight like MTFs), a way to "escape" being sexualised, and also a way to attain perceived social privileges. So many of them who would 10 years ago have become anorexic to hide their curves are now Ellen Page-ing it up by crushing (with binders) or cutting off their breasts and starving to look like UwU bois. It's a travesty.

This makes me think about exactly why it's so irksome and unsettling when trannies insist on changing the language we use to talk about inherently female things-- like "birthing parent" or "uterus-haver", that kind of bullshit. Both from the MTF anf FTM perspectives it smacks of self-centeredness and entitlement on one hand while on the other they seethe and whine about how completely innocuous things like menstrual ads or feminine clothing is oppressive and offensive to them.

It's like the FTMs loathe that it just reminds them of what they will always be, and MTFs hate that it reminds them of what they'll never be.

Largely gonna depend on if you’re dating men or women and whether you’re straight or gay. Plenty of lesbians and bisexual chicks will, from conditioning, try it once or at least say they’d do it hypothetically. Heterosexual people don’t put up with that shit to nearly the same degree. And a lot of sad, gross dudes will stick their sick in anything warm and lie about it later (see: fat chicks), so you can’t trust some of them not to fuck ‘em, but they still wouldn’t date ‘em.

On “Transandrophobia”​

We know “misandry” isn’t real. We know transmisogyny is a huge, pressing issue, and transandrophobia is not meant to be a counter to it, or to undermine it, or to discount that it exists and is a problem.

There is this urge to binarize the trans community, and to create pyramids of oppression within it that directly mirror the pyramids of oppression that cis people experience. There’s a desire to say that because trans women are women, they are The (only) Oppressed, and because trans men are men, we are The Oppressors.

The thing is, the trans community and trans experiences aren’t that simple. We aren’t a direct mirror to the way the patriarchy works for cis men & women, where one group oppresses another, and gains privilege for it. Trans men don’t gain privilege within the trans community for being men, and we don’t oppress everyone else because we are men. Being trans complicates things, and it makes gender interactions much more nuanced than that.

“Transandrophobia”- the specific marginalization that trans men/transmascs experience.

We say this instead of “transmisandry” because we do not want to miscommunicate our intentions. “Misandry” does not exist. It is not a way of countering or undermining the reality of transmisogyny. The word refers to the fact that trans men are marginalized because they are men when they should not be. When they should be women instead, because that’s what society wants.

So why not just “transphobia”? Because transphobia is a broader term that covers some, but not all of the marginalization we face. Because it impacts everyone differently, and that’s worth discussing- just like transmisogyny and nbphobia/enbyphobia/exorsexism is worth discussing.

Some examples!

• Stereotyping transmascs as “soft”, or as “men lite”.
  • Refusing to call us “boy” rather than “boi”, as if the actual word credits our manhood too much (”Boi” is also a term which, unless I’m mistaken, which refers specifically to black lesbians)
  • Encouraging trans men to be more feminine, to distance ourselves from manhood and masculinity.
  • Cis lesbians saying they’d date trans men, insisting we’re just confused lesbians
  • Cis people who say they’d never date a cis man, but would date trans men- because we are “softer” and not “really” men.
  • “Men are gross… except trans men”
    
    
    Transmascs are seen as “gender traitors”- betraying the sanctity of womanhood to chase ugly manhood instead.
    • Comments like “why would you want to be a man?”
    • Cis women tend to distance themselves from us as they accept that we are men- even while accepting cis men- because they feel we have betrayed them.
• Silencing transmascs by insisting we are, by nature, misogynists and benefactors of male privilege regardless of how well we pass/whether we are out/what the context and situation are.
  • The idea that being a trans man is only a symptom of internalized misogyny, so we must therefore be misogynists.
• Scare or nonexistent resources for abuse inflicted upon us, due both to transphobia, and to the exclusion of trans men specifically from most abuse resources.
• Medical professionals refusing to believe we are who & what we say we are, often leading to unnecessary procedures and miscommunication
  • Pregnancy tests for transmascs without a uterus
  • Urine testing receptacles meant for penises rather than vaginas (or vice versa)
  • Misgendering over the phone, demanding to speak with the “actual” patient
  • “Women’s clinic”
  • Mistreatment and abuse at women’s clinics for looking like an “intruder”, for appearing to be “stealing resources” or “taking up space”.

The word refers to a slice of specific experiences and marginalization that the rest of the community does not generally experience, and that’s it.

It is not a way of perpetuating transmisogyny, and it should not be leveled against transfemmes. It does not imply that trans women oppress us, only that we have different experiences.

If you are uncomfortable with the word, that’s fine. I think there’s room to tweak and converse and make sure it suits the purpose that the community wants from it. This is just a compilation of what I understand, right now, and what I’ve heard from other transmascs.
