Hit Matador for the first time. That went well...

I need to do more fusion, but all these demons are cunts and ask for stuff then bugger off
dont cuck too demons. its ok to say no at times. in fact, i have a rule to never give demons any macca (unless im REALLY desperate) when they ask and focus more on giving them items.

Found Soul Hackers really easy. Barely had an issue with running out of resources there. Tend to grind heavily, so might be why.

There's an NPC in Nocturne right before the manta ray boss that makes a bet with you. When you beat the boss, go back to him for some money. Not much, but it's nice that early on.

ya tbh I didn't grind much at all and I didn't expect to need to hold onto items. it's partially my fault, I'll admit, I don't like grinding more than I need to. next time I play I'm gonna hoard mp restoring items like a motherfucker.
I did love the gameplay though, and fusing was really fun. hopefully the next game I pick up is fun as well :)

The year is 2021.
Atlus still doesnt know how to add content to a game for free via automatic updates.
Merciful mode and the Chronicle pack are free DLC.

Is the Developer claimed restored cut content of the chronicle pack any good?

Sucks Dante is canon in SMT 3 but not included in the HD remaster. He was an interesting boss.

I turned off the voices after hearing probably Yuri Lowenthal again playing the junk collector maniken guy that wants the old yen bill. Maybe him, maybe not him, his voice just makes my skin crawl. Japanese dub is a japanese dub. Not much to say.

I prefer it silent like the original anyways, a lot more atmospheric than hearing a bunch of energy come out of some of the characters and demons out of some whacky asshole from California.

Completed the Assembly of Nihilo dungeon, think I'm off to Kabukicho iirc. Too bad they didn't add Kiryu now that Sega owns Atlus lol.

Matador taught me to actually use buffs and debuffs in JRPGs lol. I used to just brute force my way through these kinds of games until the original SMT3 release.

They can break a whole hell of a lot of JRPGs, since I don't think developers assume people will actually use them.

They're pretty balanced in the whole SMT franchise though. Except for power charge in Devil Survivor 2 affecting magic attacks with no particular indication that it does. It boosts the damage of your next attack by 150%. Judgement does 1/2 of enemies' current HP in damage. You can imagine where that goes.

I'm finally sitting through SMT4 (just neutered the black samurai..stupid hoe) and wondering if Apocalypse is worth a plathrough?

That's a hard question for me. I enjoyed Apocalypse, but as a story, it feels like a fanfiction of 4 populated by Persona characters. I do like how you can choose your partner rather than get a random one based on alignment and the assist gauge that cancels out an enemy turn, a buff, and healing. It also lets you break level cap with free DLC.

EDIT: Forgot mention that if you don't like the Persona characters, you can kill them near the end of the game. It also makes the game harder

I had a blast with Apocalypse. Don't play the mainline games for the story, so the lighter tone didn't bother me much. If you enjoyed SMT4's additions to the combat system but wanted some polish on them, Apocalypse is great.

Just met a Momunfu in Nocturne that wouldn't stop begging for items. Had Eligor and Berith in my party. May have been the reason. Dude, I just want a Nekomata. Get out of here and let one spawn. Need my Kikuri fodder.

Turns out Nekomata does not make a Kikuri. Oh well.

ooh. nice. Yea I definitely prefer SMT to Persona because it has a more serious /high schooly plot. At least in this one.

What are the additions to the combat system? The last SMT game I played was on PS2 and my favorite aspect of this game is it feels perfectly made for the 3DS handheld/touchscreen experience. the Burroughs app system is fun along with the very 'game world' style of going into Tokyo.

Smirk became less broken in Apocalypse. In SMT4, it makes you or your opponent 60% stronger for one turn. This includes evasion. That's cool. What isn't cool is how unpredictable it is in SMT4. Especially early on. This is the reason Minotaur is the game's Matador.

One second you're doing great. The next, that damn bull is smirking. Now you can barely hit him.

4 adds skill whispering, which allows Flynn to absorb skills. Think 4 was the one that introduced picking what skills a fused demon inherits. Could be wrong.

oh ok....yea smirk is real effing obnoxious and results in me going from full health to zero after killing majority of the enemies sometimes lmfao

I like choosing the progress of my demons very much.
