It's not like I am going to spend all this time training Pokemon through various generations only to port them over to Sword and Shield and have half my move sets be disabled by the game.
Right?
Wrong.
Honestly, I jus train a new team every game. Find new favourites. In fact, finding new Pokémon is part of the fun. Otherwise, there would not be that much fan excitement over finding cut Pokémon.
By the by, while doing
Crystal does give you Celebi, the gameplay, while better than
Red, i still rather clunky. Pokémon do not hav enough moves tha truly do go to their Pokémon. I mean, there i still a huge lack of Bug-type moves in
Crystal, something that has been rectified in
HeartGold and
SoulSilver. Plus,
Crystal does not always give you access to the types you need (unless you are willing to gamble with Unown, a weak Pokémon that has one attack of a randomly-assigned type)... or an opportunity to re-match many characters, requiring you to pick and choose between 8 or 9 rematchable characters when the number can reach about 30. The story in
HeartGold and
SoulSilver is also a little deeper and more involved than
Crystal's.
Besides,
HeartGold and
SoulSilver have the Pokéthalon; I actually had fun wi the sports-related minigames! There is also the Battle Frontier which gives plenty of post-game battling fun, whereas
Crystal only has the Battle Tower (which at least lets you battle with Pokémon whose levels are any multiple of 10, whereas the Battle Frontier is either Level 50 or automatic scaling to any level at least 50).
A mixed bag would be rry harvesting: while
HeartGold and
SoulSilver give you a lot more Apricorns (berries that someone can turn into specialised Pokéballs),
Crystal gives you more medicinal berries (items that your Pokémon can hold then use on their own) while having a find then pick-and-wait mechanic instead of the more involved process in
HeartGold and
SoulSilver.
Do not le the hate on
Black and
White get you; those are mainly people who are angry tha they cannot use their old Pokémon teams and think tha the ice cream cone and the rubbish bag are the only Pokémon added in the game.
Black and
White really took advantage of not immediately moving to the next generation of consoles, being a very polished DS game. You do not really need to use HMs anymore (other than 1 use of Strength, I think). There is a stronger emphasis on story without dragging you by force: these game think abou the relationship between Pokémon and humans, actually addressing how Pokémon battles can be considered a bloodsport. In fact, plenty of the appeal of
Black and
White is playing with your expectations of how Pokémon games hould be: there is also an EXP scaling system where the strength of your opponent affec the amount of EXP your Pokémon get. I also like how
Black and
White have surprisingly different versions of the same region: one of the cities i set in a different time period and has a different Gym Leader depending on the version of your game! The games also just have plenty of style in both battles and the overworld.
Part of the fun in the sequels i seeing how the same region changes after a few years; while you do explore previously unknown areas of the same region, you also are going to be surprised at how things that you expected from the last games are actually different here. The story also follows up on the previou story, though mainly goes on its own. The sequels have a more involved postgame, too.
