Unironically, I have one based-as-fuck MtF acquaintance who thinks quite poorly of all the political troons and other train wrecks of the whole alphabet community. The 41% meme is naturally polarizing- the left (pardon the binary grouping) sees “41 percent of trans people attempt suicide” and think “the world tortures and punishes and oppresses trans people so much, they are forced into negativity so much that they have to kill themselves to cope”. The problem is bullying- The solution naturally is to suppress transphobic language, modify societal norms to make trans people more comfortable and accepted, and to punish or outlaw bullying. The assumption being that when the negative denial of their reality is excised, the world will be a comfortable place to exist and the suicidal ideation trans people face will decrease.

What rightoids (again begging your pardon) see in a 41% suicide rate is the absolute prevalence of white 38 year old ugly beta males claiming coveted victimhood, the high intersectionality rate of other mental instabilities, and the fact that even if you are truly dysmorphic, wanting to be a woman isn’t the same as growing up and experiencing life as a woman. The pangs of longing to be different aren’t unique, they’re all too common, and killing yourself because life isn’t what you wish it was is the baseline of every suicide. We don’t celebrate these perverts killing themselves, we anticipate it, because that kind of breach from reality is a breach from sanity.

The assumption or hope that suicide rates go down in an ideal society is a broken dream. An ideal society for trans people is one in which they are totally accepted and loved for their divergence. This is unobtainable; how can the world accept you as you are when YOU couldn’t even accept yourself as you are?

We all, for at least the past five years, have lived in this near-ideal world. You can be fired or socially ostracized for denying a person’s preferred gender, regardless of the (bald) faced reality of their true sex. Why isn’t it enough? Why isn’t a basically 80% acceptance rate good enough? Why does every red neck on this planet need to look at a 50 year old balding bad-skin bitch-tits man and know from their sloppy no-liner lipstick they prefer to be called “Lola”?
