I don't really know much about the Melee and Smash scenes as a whole. I'm decently familiar with Melee's competitive scene. This is as schizophrenic as I think it is, right?

How the fuck do you fuck your hand up that bad playing a video game? A lot of the OG fighting game pros are still around, and nearing 40 for the most part, and few if any of them seem to have fucked up wrists or hands from slamming around a dpad or arcade lever.

Because this game has barely any buffers so you can input a billion things in a couple of seconds, couple that with how the controller needs you to twist your wrist a hell of a lot more to pull them off

It really is amazing just how much autism is in the FGC Smash community. I'm really wondering just how Nintendo (and Sonic) back in the day attracted so many.
The normal FGC has its issues, but I see why they attempted to keep out Smash for so long back in the mid 00's.
Many of the best Street Fighter players are still around and still quite good. They just don't have the same reaction speed in middle age.
My guess is he had a death grip on the controller and caused strain issues. Basically carpel tunnel, but in the palm instead of the fingers.

By design; in any fighting game/moba/ccg that relies on accumulating a massive amount of pointless phd sperg knowledge on how every little thing interacts the actual game is the autistic meta. Smash is just popular and accessible enough that outsiders can comprehend what these retards are saying.
I'd bet there's far worse communities, they're just fucking inscrutable to the point you can't even tell what game they're talking about most of the time

Hax has a side hustle selling 250$ b0xx controllers for smash (e.g. https://b0xx.com/). His whole deal was he fucked up his hands so badly playing the game that he couldn't use normal controllers etc.
