Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Yeah it's a good trick but the fact that hop still tells you "Man you sure know your type advantages" every battle after that is just unnecessary. Hop repeats shit so often the guy feels like a broken record, I swear he goes through his whole depression arc 3 times in the game.

Rose's design just screamed twist bad guy since the first time I saw him, that plus considering Macros Cosmos just immediately followed the aether foundation it made the twist feel like a certainty to me.
> TFW you have your anime character growth = powerup arc but your rival still defeats you easily

Another detail I liked about hop was how they used his team to work with his story. Wooloo is his true starter, yet in the middle of the main depression arc, he goes through a series of wildly different teams trying to find one that's super good out of the gate, ditching Wooloo in the process. Yet seemingly because of all this switching, most of those one-time-Pokemon are relatively low level. It's a nice attention to detail moment.

So there is a new Pokemon clone called Palworld and I think it's the best fucking idea for a game in this kind of setting (though it will likely suck)
All these fucking cool looking elemental monsters and the combat is... third person shooter? What the actual fuck?

if joe found it early, that could be it, but it could also just be someone who agrees with him promoted it first. even then, i wouldn't be surprised if joe started it, because nothing says 'long-term twitter user' like a complete lack of knowledge about the Streisand Effect
Speaking of the Streisand effect the op of the tweet went from having 25 followers to 91 in less than two days. Good job fandom, complaining about toxic fans while making a scene about a tweet that caused the op to get a huge uptick in followers.

I have experience with “toxic” fans of every generation and I am not lying when I say that from personal encounters the vocal minority of SwSh fans are the most soft and fragile of them all. The loudest ones constantly act like older fans are oppressing them and will complain about “toxic” fans who bash the newer games while acting spiteful towards the older games and their fans. I legit saw someone say they wanted BDSP to fail so that Sinnoh fans would get upset. They have a huge victim complex.

Hardcore SwSh fans are also super paranoid and act like a rabid gen 5 fan is going to jump out at them at any moment if they say anything positive about SwSh. There are rabid gen 5 fans but they aren’t as prevalent as some of the SwSh fans love to claim. And the ones that do exist are far more easily avoidable and go away with the click of the block button.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate SwSh or its general fanbase. I know a lot of super cool fans. I just feel their vocal minority is the worst out of all the generations.

May/Brendan were the first imo that were there for the sake of it and were too nice to be a true rival.
Them throwing a bitch-fit after Lilycove and not bothering to fight you again so you can see the final starter evolution was a dick move, but it also shows nuance to their character that despite being the child of the region professor and having had more knowledge over you, they'll always be second-best to the player, whom the professor kinda respects/has higher expectations towards. It rustles their jimmies so much, it's even a wonder they still want to be friends with you. They at least fixed that in the remake so that you do get to see the final evolution before they fuck off, and Wally got a bit of an upgrade and proved himself to be the better rival, but I think the trend-setting of nice rivals starting because of them is a shame since there's a way to make nice rivals interesting. (Cheren and Bianca proved this, after all.)

Barry seems like the proto-hau but actually at least tried really hard to be a proper rival and relevant character in the plot and can be re-battled every now and again at the Survival area on weekends. No idea why you can't rematch against future Generation's rival characters as far as I know.
I like Barry, he reminds me of someone I actually know, so whenever I see Barry, I think of him and it makes the game a little sillier to me.

Meanwhile, I legit cannot believe that despite X&Y giving us like three rivals (three times the money, three times the ability to kick butt), I cannot for the life of me ever remember their names. Faces, kinda, but not names, and I couldn't even tell you their personalities. How the fuck did Game Freak screw that up so bad? Sad.

There may be a lawsuit filed against the developers for plagiarising an intellectual property. That big dog creature is an obvious clone of Lycanroc and the sheep are modeled off of Woloo.

I was thinking about the corner GF backed themselves into recently as far as pikachu clones and the generic first route dog/cat/bird pokemon.
Pikachu clones are just detractors to one of the best Electric-types, Raichu. And to be honest, it's sad that the Electric-type group has to be swamped with these shitty mons [almost] every generation. With Pachirisu for instance, the only reason you'd use the thing is just to not use a Luxray within the same team you always use throughout a Gen 4 playthrough.

As for the first route dog/cat/rat, at least they mix it up a bit. Furret and Linoone are cute and useful, Luxray's good in a playthrough, Stoutland's cool and I used Liepard of all mons in my White playthrough. Diggersby's actually good, and I always smile when I see Gumshoos. And I know everyone loves Wooloo and Dubwool.

The birds, on the other hand, are the best. However, I can only see myself using Staraptor, Talonflame (RIP Gale Wings), Toucannon, and Corviknight. The rest are chopped liver; there is nothing to prove by using Noctowl, I swear. Unfezant's cool (love the male's plumage), but it's a bump after Staraptor. And lol at Boomburst Scrappy Swellow. They've been getting better at making the birds more worthwhile with each generation though. Pidgeot even got a Mega (RIP...). Nevertheless, they've always been my favorite staple mons.

He strikes a solid balance. His custom movement speed, even in the 2.5D setting, gives off the impression that the guy is always moving, which is a contrast to rivals who just show up and impede your progress. In a way, it's as if while Barry stops you the player from progressing, it's you the player via the playable character that's stopping Barry, hence the introductory THUD. I'll never forget how he just shows up to Spear Pillar and helps out, in a double battle no less.

He does rock a nice team, and I wish postgame made him reach level 95-100.

I mean, skarmory exists and is pretty badass. (really deserves an evolution on par with starraptor.) Same with Altaria being a decent psuedo dragon type. That is if you can find them before the post game.

Barry was in his own league as something different that they never tried again.
He also helps out at Stark Mountain just like he did at spear pillar. Was never even close to the roadblock that Hau is.

I get too emotionally attached to the damn things and feel like a monster for boxing up pokemon I get at the start of the game.

I enjoyed Hop's character arc, personally. At least he grows as a character and gets fresh inspiration for a goal in life unlike previous rivals that just promise to vaguely get better than you.

SwSh story was absolute nonsense though so points taken away for that.

All I remember is that the fat guy likes to dance

New Pokémon clone:

Th is a Kickstarter project, hence be wary.
It looks okay. Nothing mind blowing as of yet though I'm sure that'll change if the developers get enough funding.

Is there combat involving the actual monsters themselves? All I'm seeing is a third person shooter that happens to have a bunch of Pokémon lookalikes either using guns or acting as bodyshields for the player.

I'm not saying the concept of Pokémon actually being enslaved to humanity is bad, there's a lot of ways to go about it, but they could've at least shown some gameplay relating to monster battles. I do admit that seeing the monsters actually interact with the environment is refreshing for once, like how the water types are tending to crops and the electric types are powering something up.

Also, is that a white Nessa near the end?

Lmao laxidaze and Palworld both use some of the same store assets like that blue creature at the end of both trailers. :story:
They show the back with some lights strapped to it in Laxidaze 0:53 and show it from the front in Palworld 1:23.

The Lapas/Luiga hybrid also was shown on the first part of the Laxidaze Teaser looks a lot different then the Gyarados-looking Leviathan on Palworld.

Must be just the similar colouring but I don't think they're asset flips

Of the two I'd rather try Palworld if nothing else than mixing Pokemon with anime girls and assault rifles is hilarious to me.

I feel like I'm in the minority regarding the Pokemon fandom's long-standing desire to see an official Pokemon MMO. I prefer to single player RPGs to fully online games. and the general volatility of the fandom in recent years has sort of convinced me that a proper MMO would be far too chaotic and the general player experience could be easily ruined by elitists and smogonfags for anyone to enjoy such a game casually, unless it was some sort of limited PvE deal like what we saw in the Wild Area in SwSh but on a region-wide scale, which just... sounds terrible. Maybe Legends: Arceus will iron out the kinks, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, does anyone remember those old fanmade Pokemon MMOs created with Gen 3 assets back in the late aughts? I remember sinking a bit of time into Pokemon Crater and Pokemon Global before they shut down for one reason or another. They were by no means perfect but they definitely blew my mind as a preteen who was disappointed by Diamond and Pearl.
