General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Imma have to make a version of this with Coco after July 1st

“Let's say that I've already conquered Earth and am going to conquer the Universe" - Coco
I think this gem got lost in the chaos. Personally, I take this to mean that she’s done all she can as Coco and wants to break off to pursue more ambitious things she can’t do under Cover. This would give credence to a somewhat amicable split since she doesn’t want to be tied down forever and Cover won’t give a single talent special privilege.

Also a revival of the CN branch would be a terrible idea. The post-EN wave of EOPs wasn’t going to welcome a CN branch after the Taiwan debacle, they sure as hell won’t now after believing bugs chased away one of their most beloved talents. I can only see that ending in a lot of in-fighting within Holo and I hope Cover knows better but at this point who knows.

Interesting that the two theories resounding the largest now are "she quit because of disagreements with management" and "she quit to become management." Not completely mutually exclusive, I suppose…
She quiting because she is the one who is going to open and run Cover America Inc. She is staying in Holohouse for awhile as she learning the responsibilities and waiting for the legal stuff to be done in the US. I hope

While searching for my own dose of copium before sleep I stumbled upon a thread on /vt/ with rrat about new vtuber agency which I think hasn't been mentioned here yet?

The rrat is of course Coco joining them, maybe as a manager. Take it with a barrel of salt (heh) of course.

I woke up and thought I just had a bad dream, but it turns out it’s all real. I feel like she’s playing a joke on us or something. It’s sad that kiryu coco is gone, but we still have Kson, so she isn’t gone forever. I’m still going to miss kiryu coco though. I’m not as sad or as emotionally wrecked as some people on here are over the graduation, but I will genuinely miss coco, she was one of the people who brought me down the rabbit hole. I’ll keep supporting her as kson after her graduation and other holomem.
the thing is tho kson is not coco, something @threesquares already mentioned - sure, we love the dragon (mostly) for the person behind it, but even if she would be allowed to keep the coco avatar there's no one else to play off on. you can only do so many shitposting reviews on your own before it becomes cringe. she's not really a gamer, so no extensive playthroughs to fill the air, not really a singer either (although that coco-nee dango song gives me life), you get my drift. a big part (not the only one, but big enough to make a difference) of watching the dragon was her interacting with the others, and that's completely gone now.

she got the freedom to do whatever she wants with whoever she wants, but with whom? some indies? vshojo? highly doubt we'll get a hololive collab, and niji will probably try to avoid that clusterfuck by a mile. people will still watch her, don't get me wrong, but I doubt it will have the same appeal as before, and while she's making dosh hand over fist now who knows what it will look like in a year or two when the inertia has run out (while also not being able to use cover's resources, legal cover and general pull).

that's not a doompost about kaichou, she's smart and experienced enough to be able to get a gig as consultant or manager somewhere, but unless she starts her own company that would mean going back to the same shit she just left behind.

I'm sure the chinese are getting what's coming to them, with added interest. Of that I have absolutely no doubts in my mind. All I have to do is keep fit and in good health to laugh my fucking ass off when it goes down.
thanks to globohomo the moment the chinks go down we go down too (unless you have a cabin in the woods and can shit on society at large).

Hololive blew up in the last year, and I'm sure the increased pressure and negativity that comes with such a large platform has taken its toll on the members. Yes, being a streamer for Hololive right now puts you in an amazing financial situation, but being in the spotlight that much also comes with a price. We've seen other members such as Aqua or Marine take breaks recently due to their mental health issues. Those are not going away just by taking a short break. The fact that they are openly talking about these issues, and not just blaming it on e.g. a cold, makes me think that it's quite serious. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more graduations in the upcoming months. If Coco can do it, so can they. Maybe they were just waiting for Coco to lead the way. Remember this clip?
to be fair they are not necessarily the most well-adjusted people to begin with. I'm not talking shit about someone's oshi, but some of the problems they were talking about were completely on their own - "working" every day with hardly any short or long breaks will fuck anyone up, no matter how "comfy" and "easy" vtubing is (unless cover demands a certain amount of hours per week/month with no vacation time in return, but I doubt that). or aqua moving out and living on her own (iirc), that's always a big step and we know from the stories that she's probably the most socially handicapped of all of them, so why not move in with shion or someone else at first?
usually that's where a manager steps in, but given japan and enforcing mandated breaks I can't blame them too much. insofar coco's holohouse ideas is immensely helpful - not just for the stories it generates - but also because means they have a closer eye on each other and it gives them someone to help with shit like "girl, you need a break" where they might actually listen to it.

I go offline for one day, and I come back to hear Coco, the Vtuber that pretty much got me into it all, is graduating. I am deeply saddened, and my day is ruined.

Fuck China, we should have just nuked them into oblivion when we had the chance.

I mean we know that Cover does have mandated minimums, but that's 3 pieces of content per week. It technically doesn't even have to be streams.
The problem is something that both Mori and Kiara have talked about at length, when you are the only one making your schedule and the only one responsible for your relative success it is extremely easy to overwork yourself and not take breaks that would be enforced in "normal" jobs.

The Sun has an article about Coco (online of course). This is surreal.
I thought you was genuinely pulling my leg. But fuck me your right there is one. I wonder how that article went down around their office now. Fucking nuts. I need a coffee and a sit down, been a long day.
