Creative works you enjoyed until politics happened - "How politics made me hate Welcome to Nightvale and other things"

Sorry if I have mentioned this one before, but Writing Excuses used to be a great writing podcast, with the episode on the Hollywood formula being a great listen for anyone who has any interest in big budget films and why some work and some don't.

Then they went down the road of diversity and the podcast went to shit. I've not listened in years.
Do you know around when they went full woke shills? I was actually going to start listening to this, but I usually prefer not to waste my time if I'm going to listen to White Guilt shit.

Speaking of Podcasts ruined, I used to love Casefile but I noticed the quality of their episodes was dropping a bit around late 2019. A lot more started being focused on how every victim is a "bright, vibrant girl with her whole life ahead of her" and shit dragging on to the point where I honestly couldn't tell you what the hell the case was about.

Then I noticed the scripts are being researched and written by women. Surprise, surprise.

Do you know around when they went full woke shills?
I don't, unfortunately. I do remember it being fairly abrupt and easy to spot. They used to hold a writing event. I think they called it a workshop or bootcamp or something. When they start shilling it as a workshop for black and female writers only, the end is nigh.

Here's the Hollywood formula episode, which it says was season 6, so you're good for that long at least.
Skimming the episode titles, season 12 is where the episode titles are things like "gendered dialect", so I'm guessing you'll be fine for the first 8-10 seasons.

A lot more started being focused on how every victim is a "bright, vibrant girl with her whole life ahead of her" and shit dragging on to the point where I honestly couldn't tell you what the hell the case was about.
One of my parents watches a lot of crime documentaries (FBI Files, Forensic Detectives, that kind of thing) and recent shows focus a lot on how perfect the victims are, and skim over the killer. I remember Null mentioned on a stream that Wikipedia has been downplaying the killer in it's articles too.

I wonder if this is an organised effort to not give killers the spot light. For years the news media has been sensationalising mass shootings and ignoring the police when they told them to knock it off, and recently they only do it when it fits a narrative. I wonder if that is now spreading to documentaries as well.

After watching the majority of the new Bo Burnham the other posters were correct. Holy fuck the guy has gone full giga-retarded with not only injecting extreme politics into his act but not even making it funny. Welcome To The Internet is the only decent thing in the entire act. Should have looked at how Trevor Moore injects political shit and not Chapo Troon House.
Should have been more like this
And less of "I got a sockpuppet to say private property is theft"

In their official celebrations for Pride Month, the Nickelodeon network has decided to make noticeably outspoken pieces of media in relation to their LGBTQ+ activism.
Recent reporting suggests that if the Viacom-owned channel is trying to get “woke” for the sake of ratings, the plan isn’t working.
The "Meaning of Pride" video uploaded to the Nickelodeon YouTube channel on June 5th doesn’t even allow for ratings. A commonplace feature on the site that is active for other recent videos in the Nickelodeon catalog.
It wasn’t the first time the network brought out drag queen Nina West. Back at the end of May, the Blue’s Clues program decided to have a pride parade that went as far as showcasing cartoon animals that underwent sex change procedures.
A decision that brought the video a staggering 88,000 dislikes.
But the social media behavior of the Nickelodeon brand indicates the company is fully on board with their current political posturing.
It gets better every time we watch it ??— Nickelodeon (@Nickelodeon) June 10, 2021
According to a site called Pirates & Princesses, the ratings for the Nickelodeon are stagnating.
"Since July of 2017, Nickelodeon’s viewership has dropped from 1.3 million average viewers per week to a June of 2021 average of only 372,000. In only four years, Nickelodeon has dropped more than two thirds of its audience. That is catastrophically bad for the cable channel, but with cable on the way out, maybe it’s not so bad? The catch here is that it is, in fact, that bad and perhaps worse, simply because Nickelodeon seems to be the primary driving force behind new subscribers to Paramount+."
To put it another way: the streaming wars has Paramount heavily leaning on Nickelodeon to develop their brand identity. Services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon are at the head of the pack because they’ve managed to deliver on content.

The screeching clowns from clownfish aren't a trustworthy source. Nickelodeons ratings are crashing only for a few videos (the pride shit ones). and these child grooming perverts deserve it. But the article makes it look like Nickelodeons ratings crash for many/most/all videos when it's not the case. Typical clickbait bullshit.

So, I don’t know if any of you guys have watched Uncle Al’s Krusty Kooch Chronicles, but he seemed to take a more political move around election time. This video is pretty much a bunch of “orange man bad” hokey with only a nominal “Biden is senile” joke.
And this one is pure Branch Covidian bullshit, and one released at Christmastime when most people were starting to realize how blatantly tyrannical most of the lockdowns were.
It goes without saying that I don’t watch his YouTube poops anymore.

What is with YTPers and generally becoming massive assholes after getting a modicum of attention? They suddenly believe it to be their soapbox. At least the trump v biden analogue isn't as bad as it could be, he does seem to make fun of both of them pretty equally, and hyperbolically. But shoving in the covid stuff is nonsense and the video is plainly not funny, covering jokes that have been done to death already, especially the trump side. One thing I'll say though is Trump plainly pushed for wuflu restrictions way before everyone else and wanted the vaccine to be developed. The strawman they've made of him as a man that completely ignored it is false and anyone can see it. But other than that I'd say it's just meh. The grinch video, however, jesus christ. Not only was this guy way late to the party on this topic as well, but he's obviously got a tone of smug superiority going on througout the video. As well as completely falsifying the points of the anti-lockdown side. Absofuckinglutely nobody I know who was against lockdown with half a brain cell ever claimed that viruses don't exist and cannot harm people. The point was that quarantine procedures had gone on long enough and had done more harm than good, if the good that was claimed it could do ever materialized. On top of this keeping the grinch stealing the presents makes no sense. The claim of covid being able to survive on surfaces in any harmful form for an extended period of time was eventually disproven. I don't even know any covidians who still claim that or even cleanse gifts or shipments, and I think the ghost was given up far before December last year. All in all this dude was a one hit wonder with canned coochie. He's admittedly a decent VA for cloning existing characters but his comedy outside of the work that drew attention to him needs major work, and he needs to take the stick out of his ass. Too bad it probably won't happen.

Podcasts!

- "We Hate Movies." Brought up a couple times before, but it's really tough to get through a whole episode without the woke stuff popping up. Any time some sort of non-woke thing happens in the movie, they have to go on for way too long about it. They rip apart 20 year old movies for tranny jokes when every single one of these guys knew these jokes were totally acceptable like...7 years ago.
- "Blank Check with Griffin & David." Fun concept for a podcast, two guys watch entire oeuvres of directors and talk about them. Lots of typical woke shit, but what grated me the most was some woman guest who said "fuck TERFs" several times completely out of nowhere during her episode. Why did you say that lady. Just talk about the fucking movie
- "Never Not Funny." One of the old guards of comedy podcasts that started in 2006, turned to complete mush in 2016 starting with the hosts' obsession with "Hamilton" then Hillary/BernieBros and then the election of Trump. In their early days, they wore the badge of being "apolitical" quite proudly (host Jimmy Pardo saying things along the lines of "we're just two dumb guys, what do we know?"), and then suddenly with Trump it became "important" to bash Trump every episode. They also started bringing on more diverse guests, which on paper isn't terrible, but this just means new people who are completely unaware of what the show is, as what made the podcast great in its early days was it was Jimmy and comedian friends of his talking the shit for a while. That was back when Jimmy would call everyone a faggot when they made a dumb joke.
- "The Smartest Man in the World." Okay so Greg Proops has always been a smug shit, but he went off the deep-end with Trump. But to be fair, like with Never Not Funny, so did literally every LA-based comedian's podcast that was around before 2016.

Thank god for Cum Town, a podcast more racist than it's ever been.

Sounds just like Bill Burr before I finally stopped listening to his show. His version of that is/was "Ahhhhhhh I'm just some dumb white guy" after he gives his retarded take on things though.

When I was in my late-teens, I used to like Hiimdaisy's (A.K.A. Gigi D.G.) comics, such as Let's Destroy Metal Gear, Persona 3 and Persona 4.

Then she took down her video game related comics after starting making Cucumber Quest, saying that her sense of humor was questionable at that time and disliked the memes her comics spawned, because people cared more about the memes, rather than her comics (Which I find stupid, because if people didn't care about her comics, there wouldn't be memes in the first place.) She also wanted to focus on making her own comics instead of focusing on just video game related stuff.

Anyways, I liked Cucumber Quest at first. But it quickly got boring for me. The story dragged on and on, started to focus on romantic relationships instead of the actual story, villains became useless and eventually, I stopped reading it.
I decided to check the comics now and I found out that Hiimdaisy stopped continuing it, because of her personal life problems.
Instead she was going to upload the rest of the story in script format (Dare I say, like Homestuck?):

She also published her (not finished) Cucumber Quest comics as comic books on Amazon:

They're aimed for 8-12 year age groups.

I'm mentioning this, because I remember Hiimdaisy saying that she wants to teach LGBTQ+ issues to children with her comics. Steven Universe style.
Cucumber Quest was no exception to that and it had plenty of LGBTQ+ characters:
-Two lesbian kids (Almond and Peridot. Their ages were not specified, except for that they're younger than 9.)
-Two lesbian princesses (Piano and Ametrine, who got a lot of focus during the last pages of the comic.)
-Two gay kings (Aster and Sunflower, who think their daughter's stealing habit is a teen phase and do nothing about it.)
-Two gay villains (Quakemaster and Obsidian. I don't remember them much.)
-One transwoman villain (Rosemaster. (Deadname: Thornmaster) Fun fact: Apparently people got angry at Hiimdaisy for making a transwoman villain who has powers based on deceiving and manipulating people (lol) and she had to apologise for that.)
-One drag queen, who plays as a character in a children's show (Sir Bacon, who used to be an useless villain. Then he found a liking to crossdressing and theatre.)
-One gender-neutral character who works for the villains (Cosmo.)

Also, Hiimdaisy apparently was listed as one of the writers of Nu-Ra's Graphic Novel. This should tell everything about her:

Yet another incident of "person I liked in the early 2010s becoming terrible." It hurts seeing my teenage giggles turning into political absurdity.

The main shit I knew about this comic for years was that toby fox did like album music for it much like he did for homestuck, and several of those songs ended up being reused in undertale (also much like homestuck)

The homestuck parallels seem to be not only in the lower effort as the series goes on to the point it becomes text only, but the shit with the politics becoming forced and the weird shit framing a webcomic as a "thing for "LGBT+ Kids to discover themselves!" or whatever. Difference here is Homestuck actually ENDED before being fucking dug up and fucked by the sequel content while on the other hand cucumber quest I guess just never got that peaceful rest phase homestuck had after it was slightly neutered in act 6 by a mixture of things.

Yet another incident of "person I liked in the early 2010s becoming terrible." It hurts seeing my teenage giggles turning into political absurdity.
Too many of the early 2010s creators and the same could be said for 2000s creators put too much of themselves into their work and surrounding themselves with other "creators" who usually ended up trending left and then further left and so on.

Welp, how about a creator we enjoyed until he had a slight breakdown due to visa troubles with his new wife, but now... HE'S BACK!

Gentlemen. And ladies. I give you... the return of Photonicinduction.

The works of David Wong, I enjoyed his Cracked articles, I enjoyed the first two John Dies At The End books.

Then he went Woke and I could care less to read any more of his novels, including the third JDATE, I still would read a Cracked article of his every once in a blue moon but they sucked, it's ironic how the dude tried to be a moderating voice back when the battle was atheists vs Christians but when it became SJWs vs Anti-SJWs he picked a side and he would also talk about how Orwellian society was becoming before running interference for Big Brother, total sellout douchebag.

It's not surprising considering the second JDATE book was already very mildly proto-Woke, with a strawman "annoying nerd" character whom a female character wishes she could "slap him and slap him and slap him and slap him", you could sense the growing hostility towards nerds in 2012, there's also strawman right wing characters.

To go even further back he also once wrote a article shockingly defending the idea that video game violence could lead to real world violence at the height of controversy over GTA and Jack Thompson, so he was always proto-Woke it seems.

I really look back and cringe at how things played out with Cracked in general, what a great website it once was and what a steep nosedive it took, you could tell right away when the articles became propaganda, the sudden shift was obvious.
David Wong was always a cringey sperg in my opinion. I remember back in the mid-2010's when he was active on Reddit and would just say the most retarded wokeshit on random threads. Back when Reddit wasn't as pozzed, there used to be compilations of his posts on r/cringe and Imgur in circa 2014-2015. Wong would reply to random threads with word salad drivel and get massively downvoted and told to shut up.

Examples:

Thread: "What's your favorite Chinese food meal?"
Wong: "How racist of you. Dear white people, the 'Chinese food' you eat is racist and promotes colonialism."
Random User Reply: "Fuck off, no one cares"

Thread: "Which Star Trek series is superior?"
Wong: "Definitely not the original series because they promoted hostility towards POC by not giving bigger roles to Uhurla or Sulu. Typical white supremacist writers."
Random User Reply: "Kill yourself"

Thread: "What's your most embarrassing childhood story?"
Wong: "The only thing I'm embarrassed about is the sheer amount of racist white males on this website."
Random User Reply: "Go back to Cracked"

And it was a front-facing account that was verified as him, so it wasn't a parody account. Like, his entire post history was shitty anti-white, anti-male rants as replies to each thread.

Amazing, to think there was a time in which he seemed like a level headed, rational dude, well I'm certainly not going to bother with any of his books now knowing he's THAT retarded.

What the fuck has gone wrong with our society where people have become so damn obsessed with race and the shittiest takes on race imaginable?
