I always laugh about "trans rights are human rights" (or any other "x rights are human rights". It sounds as if trans people aren't human but some strange alien species mimicking humans to fit in better.i never get the phrase 'trans rights' because no one really says what the fuck it's supposed to be
What annoys me the most about blackwashing is that they ignore stuff with cannon black people in it and throw those characters under the bus. Also the tendency to blackwash red heads in modern media is beyond aggravating to me.Here’s my personal take on race swapping; I think if done for the purpose of being experimental or artistic, it’s fine. Maybe an artist wanted to explore what a show would be like if it were steeped in Native American culture or maybe they just thought a character a character would look cooler if they were Japanese. And it goes both ways; if an artist wants to reimagine Deku as a blue eyed European knight, they are perfectly free to do so.
With that being said, blackwashing as seen in this thread is hypocritical, uncreative, and all around bullshit; you draw a black character a shade lighter and that’s harmful but you can erase entire Asian identities and somehow blackwashing doesn’t exist. Even worse is with stuff like Blactober that encourages this shit as somehow helping black people. It’s all so disingenuous.
While it's not technical blackwashing, I also hate it when they say a non-human character/species is black-coded because of this stereotype or that, draw them as black humans and start foaming at the mouth when your humanisation is white.
