True, though this has been going on for at least 2-3 years/E3s for me. Open world manshoots with whispy hipster covers of songs from the 1980s. Rerelease of a remaster of a port. The woke kabuki theater + COVID drought certainly isn't helping , but its not all that for me at least.

Hell, I have a new PC and I'm using it to play hyper modded Skyrim and Paradox map painters. Nothing interests me and I'd rather play old games. Or get into other hobbies.

Rimworld is probably my go to PC game recently, especially with all the mods out there.
Making an organ harvesting operation in that game is shockingly fun, especially when not all of your pawns are bloodlusters or psychopaths. It's worth a shot if colony simulators are at all your thing.

I haven't bought a new game since I ponied up the cash for Subnautica 2: Tropical Freeze and that was because it offered more of the same Subnautica feeling. The story is nice too, simple but serviceable. Unless it's a series a care about, modern AAA is all but dead to me. That said, I may finally have to go bing bing wahoo and get a Switch for Metroid Dread. Here's hoping Prime 4 doesn't take 19 years to develop.

One really cool log from the first Prime was the one that detailed the space pirate's attempt at replicating Samus's morph ball technology and they conclude that the morph ball can. not. work. No matter what they tried they ended up with nothing but mangled space pirates. It provides an answer to the long running question of how the morph ball actually works.

Something the prime trilogy does really well is make you kind of feel bad for the space pirates especially in prime 2 were they in addition to putting up with their science division's bullshit they are basically getting gang raped by samus the ing and dark samus

I was still gaming on a Genesis as late as 1996, 1997 and 1998, you could easily find Genesis games on the shelves of video stores as late as 1998 too, Sega definitely should have supported it officially for longer.

In fact the smartest thing to do would have been to skip the Saturn entirely, let Sony and Nintendo work out the kinks on 3D early on, keep Sega 2D, then come on strong with the Dreamcast.

It was one of the first times we saw a schism like that I feel, where a game got rave reviews but a sizable minority didn't think it was that great and that's been gaming ever since, there's always been a contingent of "games are not as good as they used to be" and as time goes on I feel myself joining it too.

I think the schism was there because levine was well connected with the press and got better reviews than the game deserved. Like we all knew the gaming press was rigged, but it wasnt this obviously rigged before. The og bioshock was a good game but it got way more praise than it deserved

I didnt like the setting much but I think the worse part of infinity was the massive downgrade it got from the demos

the tone of 3 is radically different than the first 2 games, New Vegas brought back the tone of the first 2 games

I disagree but because there is no patching infinite story since its all based around a gotcha moment sort of like shaymalan's sixth sense did, and the 2nd time you play it its not as great because the surprise factor is gone. I felt the multiverse, multiple-pathway exploration in the DLC didnt fit with the original game's story. I take levine saw the videos that disected the plot holes of infinite and tried to solve that but in doing so he retconned some aspects like the vox and daisy's motivation and that just looked stupid to me. Its like in DS3 they basically tossed a lot of the lore away and created an entirely new faction that didnt even exist before, the unitologists went from a scientology joke to a fucking army that takes down the uber powerful earthgov, etc etc

and was also really good in general, but that was a total copout, but looking from the vantage point of the original game it's message of the resistance becoming just as evil as what it's rebelling is against is as spookily relevant

The problem wasnt joel getting killed but that they never set the tone for it. Sure there are hints that joel used to be one of those hunters killing and robbing people but its only hints, small dialog from tommy and tess saying they are shitty people. But if in one of the flashbacks they actually have you playing as hunter joel it would probably set the idea that he "had it coming" but instead they show this reborn joel who is not even a smuggler anymore but helping a struggling community of survivors and he gets killed like a dog by a troon-nightmare looking bitch whose story is not even told until much later
