Guilty Gear -Strive- has got a bit of controversy going on for anyone out of the loop.

First thing to note is that one of the popular characters, I-No, had her victory pose censored.

For comparison, her win pose is of her topless

Recently (like yesterday), the directors of GG-Strive- insisted that this was, in fact, NOT censorship, but to be "More Accessible Along with Gameplay"

Here's the related portion of it for those that don't want to read the long-ass article.

In "not-so-recent" news, but still relevant to GG-Strive-'s questionable choices, it's story mode is more like a movie and “No Input from your Controller is Required”

As you can expect, that news didn't go over so well when it was announced.

I don't mind I-No redesign at all, it doesn't look that bad (except for the over sizing of the hat). What I do care about is Strive's trash looking gameplay. Do throws still do 30-80% of a health pool?

This won't work on western fans. We've been beaten down so much with by the censorship mob that this "it's not actually censorship" schtick is laughable. GG thematically was extremes, stuff that's crazy even by anime standards. A rocker chick who attacks with notes, riffs and who's so metal there's something wrong if her tits aren't out fit in perfectly with the lunacy. Now we're expected to digest that moving away from the thematic extremes due to accessibility is in keeping with GG's soul. Uh huh.

This screams "we're toning down the sexuality to make doa6 a real fighting game" with all the success that had, granted not nearly as core of a problem. It's not that the design is bad, but coming from I-no's original design this seems like something her character would wear to church. Going from an outfit where her decency was kept solely by esrb and cero ratings to something that looks more overly dressed than normie workout clothes and claiming that creativity isn't being restrained and reigned in is insulting.

Bitching about the Strive story mode seems rather dumb, anyone paying attention would know Xrd and Rev were both glorified visual novel with 3d cutscenes every now and then with Rev leaning more into the latter. There's also one Strive interview that said they wanted Strive's story mode to be a movie in the first place rather than something you play like a more traditional arcade mode with story tidbits. Mind you those are also in the game, because Strive does have an arcade mode that works just like that.

The "censorship" came with the new character design. I saw I-no's new design and knew what was coming.

Also, the story mode for Strive was like that in the last game. Just kind of an animated movie of sorts. People in the FGC are going nuts over shit they either knew was coming or was already in past games. The only way this was a surprise is if you're retarded.

I bought Xrd on a whim in a ps store sale and it was alright, I fuck around with it when I'm in the mood for something anime, but holy shit I had no fucking idea this was that autistic under the surface.

ETA: Honestly I don't know a thing about the story, I just like playing as the dude in the bed.

SonicFox Gets Their Own Plushie, Sells Out In Two Hours
The fighting game community's champion deserves it

Dominique “SonicFox” McLean, the non-binary Defender of Trans Rights and perhaps the best fighting games player of a generation, got their own plushie yesterday.

SonicFox’s team, Evil Geniuses, updated its shop yesterday advertising a 100% real, not-a-joke plushie in the likeness of fighting games’ favorite furry. “This furry gremlin has been signed off by SonicFox to officially fuck shit up,” read baby-Sonic’s description on the website. The limited run, individually-numbered, fox friend went for $35 and sold out in two hours.

SonicFox was obviously jazzed about their plushie, producing some top-shelf memes.

In a behind-the-scenes video documenting the production of the plushie, Evil Genius showed off early concepts, including a chibified version that is somehow even cuter than the one they eventually settled on.
Screenshot_2021-06-16_17-54-48.png

The plushie that ended up in production was something the video described as “the essence of SonicFox.”

Starting with their first EVO win in Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2014, SonicFox has gone on to win EVO championships in Mortal Kombat X, DragonBall Fighter Z, and Mortal Kombat 11. Outside of EVO, they are a two-time Injustice 2 Pro Series Champion and the 2020 Final Kombat Champion.

SonicFox’s most recent victory came earlier this year at the We-Play Esports Ultimate Fighting League Mortal Kombat 11 tournament in Ukraine. More notable than that win was their insistence on the announcer calling them the “Defender of Trans Rights” and having the trans flag serve as their player portrait background instead of their country flag, which is more commonly accepted.

SonicFox has been an outspoken member of the Black LGBTQIA+ community, using their platform and tournament appearances to raise money for charity and speak out for queer and trans Black youth.

Though the plushie is sold out, here’s hoping they’ll restock soon in time for Christmas.

I checked the Twitter replies, nothing but consoomers that are begging for a restock. It's pretty pitiful.

Only reason why I came across this was because i was looking for E3 salt.

Yes, yes they were.

MOBAs as well but that's just the boomer in me talking.

The grossest thing about this entire article is when they refer to SonicFox as "the best fighting games player of a generation".

Imagine being the "best in a generation" for Fighting Games but never winning anything in a game that people actually play (SF5, T7, or even fucking Smash Ult) or beating anyone noteworthy ever in your career. I'm not even certain you could call SonicFox the best "MK player of a generation" much less the best across all games.

Imagine writing that about a MK11 player, holy fuck. Why not just declare whoever wins "Thems Fighting Herds" at Evo '21 to be the "best fighting games player of a generation".

There are also plenty of black FGC players that have stronger showings and bigger community contributions in games that are legitimately competitive. Just look at Mike Ross or even LowTierGod. SonicFox is only picked because he's the most degenerate possible person to choose. It's a propaganda tactic not a legitimate recognition of talent.
