Trans activists love telling us about how they're so different from "cis" people and how they're "trans", but the moment someone who doesn't identify as trans repeats that they're trans and that makes their experience different they completely lose the plot and emphasize how they're the "same" as the "cis". Chimamanda didn't do anything wrong, in fact, she was highlighting how people don't really respect differing perspectives anymore and that social media was exacerbating this problem even further. You can't shove your beliefs down peoples' throats and then cry when someone criticizes you. That's not how meaningful debate works. Adichie's been quite supportive of transgender people and she doesn't even strike me as a "radical feminist" or gender critical. It takes much more courage to grapple with the reason they denied you that interaction. That’s what Adichie should be doing now, instead of extending the pain she caused others to many more of her trans readers.
Adichie’s essay is a distraction. She should not, now, get to own the conversation about the harmful impact of her words and actions.[/SPOILER]
