I don't understand how, since the kid is as uninteresting and dry as cardboard. Still, even taking white bread into account, Dream's SMP hinges on a charismatic 17 year old and another, boring 17 year old.

Perhaps by inviting both boring cardboard people and people in Tommy's friend group, he's trying to spark a second Ranboo and Tommy respectively? It's a crackpot theory, sure, but I wouldn't really put it past Clayton of all people.

Well his character on the SMP is real angsty and is very mentally ill. Plus he's been open about having extreme anxiety. So that's probably why he has so many crazed stans [if you look on his Discord/in his community in general, a lot of the stans are mentally ill supposedly]. Plus, he's young, so they get to infantilize him.

The fact that some gay SMP Minecraft server has "writers" still boggles my fucking mind.

What's worse is that Wilbur, someone I used to enjoy watching, has developed a massive fucking ego over "writing" an awful Minecraft SMP story.

What the fuck happened to hanging with friends and just doing some light improv? Its certainly better than whatever stupid storyline they keep trying to pretend is way better than it is.

A few of the SMP members have kept that element in their streams; I think the fans taking it too seriously and the obsession with angst in the fandom sort of drove it to what it is today [we can see this in the fact that some of the stans hate Ph1l and Techno's characters since they're not serious and not angsty enough for them, and they're not very subtle about their disdain either]

What's even funnier is that YouTube's "Culture and Arts" channel or whatever the fuck its called made a video talking about how the Dream SMP is an "epic for the modern era". Maybe it's just me, but I think Youtube is trying too hard to relate to younger kids. What baffles me more though, is that they somehow refer to a shitty cliche-ass Minecraft story as a fucking "epic". Wilbur's ego over "writing" a "story" filled with plotholes, and having no concrete direction whatosever was already big enough, but YouTube just decided to fucking quadruple it. The story feels like it's written by a fucking second grader, because of how the "villain" has no direction whatsoever. It's like a 2nd grader decided to make a story and take inspiration from all the movies and plays they saw in the last week with how it jumps from Hamilton to a documentary on South American dictators then to fucking Greek fables within a single storyline.

"oh so basically hamilton but the evil oppressor is actually mentally deranged and oh look evil dictator takeover in election with vote!!! so good guys team with cool edgy anarchist but good guy father figure actually mentally deranged!! wow plot twist so deep!!!!! and now anarchist betray and team with mentally deranged and oh look country blown up!!!!!" etc etc (you get the point)

Wilbur is a shit "writer" and the L'manburg "arc" is fucking garbage.

He didn't even fucking write anything, he fucking laid an outline with stuff on the quality of "schlatt has a heart attack and fucking dies"
All the L'manberg arc amounted to was a confusing mess that lasted over a year that all amounted to "people can make bad decisions while in power", as if that needed a year to be fucking told. It didn't even end when the stupid city was blown up the first time, no they had to drag it out even longer.

You know what, that's fair (and horrifying). At least Wilbur didn't write that fucking awful exile arc.

The only good thing that came out of the exile arc was Tommy and Techno teaming up, but they even threw that collaboration away so that Tommy could be sad boy in L'manburg. If Tommy didn't have the charisma he has it would've been way more fucking insufferable than it already was.
