Microsoft is also requiring a front-facing camera for all Windows 11 devices except desktop PCs from January 2023 onwards.

You can't make this shit up.
I genuinely thought they cant make 11 much worse than 10, but they fucking find a way. Linux compatability was always an issue but at this point I think it's worth it to write off windows. Holy fuck. Why would anyone even agree to this? It's fucking insane I should require a webcam spying on me just to use a machine for other reasons. I mean sane people cpover them up anyway, but this is insanity. I don't think even normies will tolerate this. Thank fuck all they care about is phones and mac.

I checked the website and they nuked specifically my CPU series from the compatibility list, they pass from check this out Athlon to Epic then Ryzen and nuke all the FX series, how the fuck window 11 is so much of a piece of garbage that can support Athlon but not FX?

Edit: checked the website again, yesterday they said my pc is compatible, now? it says its fucking garbage and i should go die in a ditch for being poor

Edit 2: the amount of people in comments and reddit with "just upgrade bro is not that hard" should be shot

... Never mind. My computer's going to become a brick in 3 years if I don't switch to Linux, so I may as well start testing Linux Mint on a live USB sooner than later.

It didn't work with Xbox One Kinect back in 2011, but people are so stupid and so much stupider than they were back then that I think it's going to work now. *sigh*

It's looking like it's going to be a Windows 95a level shitshow. By C it was pretty okay. Windows 98 was also good.

You skip over NT 3.51 but that was remarkably stable as a server, at least for a Windows project. I'm still convinced they released that just to murder Novell Netware once and for all, because they immediately dumped this particular leg of NT. NT 4 was also pretty good.

They haven't released a really good OS for servers since.

Save your documents on an external HDD and just do it already goddamnit! Nuke that shit off your boot drive

I hate it so much that everything needs an account.
I told my parents this and they think I'm crazy. "It's not troublesome to have multiple accounts! You already have a Google account that your (Android) phone needs to function in any meaningful capacity! Being that dogmatic about privacy and accounts will get you nowhere in the workforce, you know."

If I want to install Linux on my computer, I'll have to do it behind their backs and pray that I don't break anything because tech parts are unaffordable thanks to scalpers and the forever chip shortage. (:_(

Nobody else seems to have mentioned this but Windows 11 REQUIRES Direct X12 to function. A feature which came out in 2015 (Alongside the launch of windows 10) (Never mind the fact that lower end hardware didn't add the feature until much later) Which means most people, even if they wanted to, will be locked out of Windows 11 unless they give prayers to god for new graphics cards. Also what will laptop owners do? Laptop sales in the Direct X12 era have been very low and the models that DID sell well in that time period are paper thin touch screen laptops barely running Windows 10. A lot of these decisions are going to have to reconsidered if they want normal people to use Windows 11 (Any mildly technologically competent person has either downgraded to 7 or gone Linux). Normal people don't upgrade often, but on the other side. Microsoft doesn't need Windows anymore, Azure makes them all the money now.

I'm afraid I don't understand your complaint.

Are there sentient people who can type words out there who seriously believe that there is a community of people (which they themselves do not belong to) who base their buying decisions for... laptops, and tablets... on them NOT HAVING A CAMERA FOR VIDEOCONFERENCING?

I don't like them either, but I don't believe I have a constituency for this.
EDIT: Wait, this is even funnier. You do realize what "official compatibility" means right, you drooling retards? It means that Microsoft can require OEMs who want to sell "Windows 11 compatible" PCs after x date to provide certain features. Like, if you buy a new Acer piece of shit laptop in two years, it can't come with Windows 11 or advertise itself as Win 11 compatible if it doesn't have DirectX 12 support. It doesn't mean that your PC will stop receieving security updates in 2023 if you don't provide DirectX 12 or a front-facing cock ring.

It's amazing that Win11 might require home users to have an internet connection and front-facing cam given that the digital divide still exists.

When the pandemic resulted in schools switching exclusively to online learning, we learned pretty quickly that plenty of people lacked internet access and/or computers that could support virtual learning platforms. That MS expects home users to have equipment that many likely don't or won't have is very head scratching. Then again, one can easily argue MS cares more about its bottom line than giving end users what they want/need. With that in mind, Win11 makes sense from their POV if not from an end user's.

I invite you to read the comments on this article:

"nobody needs a crappy webcam, use your phone for video calls, this is for younger people that seem to get that"

And yes, there are people out there that seek out laptops without webcams. People who prioritize privacy that you see covering their cameras with tape go nuts when they find a new one with no camera at all.

Every device I own with a front-facing camera has duct tape over it. It's best practice at this point.
