It's likely that the guy is dead, but really what precedent does this set up? If Onision kills himself does that make everyone who rallied against him culpable in his death? If Richard Spencer blows his head off are all the people who hate White Supremacists at blame?

Personally I wouldn't dwell too much on the guy recognizing the song. If Byuu liked the song, he probably shared it with his friends before, and there's a pretty high chance some of his friends are into that kind of music anyway. Agree 100% otherwise.
The weird thing about the song, IMO, is that it was mentioned at all....and the way it was written as a narrative.
If i were describing how I overheard my friend's suicide, I would probably write in a very matter of fact way and not try to be poetic or anything.

Off topic but do you have a sense of how friendly or unfriendly Japanese hospitals would be when it comes to obviously fake suicide attempts? All I know is that over there there's a kind of high social sensitivity when it comes being reckless and being an imposition, that kind of thing. I don't know how that might map onto the experience of being someone who ends up in hospital because of a suicide attempt, but part of me suspects it could show up in manners somehow and make the experience uncomfortable.
