This reminds me of a moment in an Alfred Hitchcock documentary I watched. His biographer theorizes that the reason Hitchcock never employed the casting couch or traded roles for sex with hot actresses was because this would be an 'insult to his vanity.' It would be an insult to him to be like those other sleazy men who used those methods for sex, he was above that, and the sex itself would be cheap and unsatisfying because it was a trade, and he would know that the women didn't actually want him, respect, or admire him. Which was what he really wanted. What I don't get is, if some older, fatter dudes get pussy for being famous, why didn't Ian simply learn this man stuff on his own?
I may be playing armchair, but I wonder if Ian has a similar mentality (I am certainly not comparing Ian to Hitchcock in terms of talent.) When he became huge on YT, and babes attracted to popularity started looking at him, going 'hmm he's cute' I wonder if a part of him thought that he was above groupies. That he isn't the kind of sleazy guy who would get his rocks off on girls that are only interested in his fame, he's better than that. He is going to have an actual girlfriend that wants a relationship with him.
Maybe because Anisa was a streamer (I can't recall if she was still streaming at the time or had just quit and Lord how melodramatic she was about that) he thought she had common ground with him. Dudes wanted to bang her because she was a titty streamer, chicks wanted to bang him because he was notorious. I guess he figured what he had with Anisa was real, and wasn't going to risk ending up with a chick who was actually a groupie/fame whore.
Wouldn't be a bad story if Anisa didn't turn out to be a deep well of insecurity and an attention addict that a lover cannot fulfill, and Ian had the common sense to get the hell out of there.
