There are over 2000 firms worldwide registered with the PCAOB. That you think that is a gold, silver or bronze bar of quality just exposes that you are basically rattling off things you seen in random web searches or heard someone say in closing.
I do not work for an accounting firm. IFRS isn't a big deal, though. We just had a seminar on it and used our knowledgebase software to access information when need be. You REALLY are talking like a student when you say things like this. In practice, these things and stuff like Japanese SOx, etc. you basically know the jist, and you can attend seminars on them and rely on the knowledge management system.
I did a few years at GT, did some work with Creative Solutions, and now I teach and consult outside of accounting, so no, I do not need to know IFRS where I work now.

@Frank Rizzo Lmao, actually he just made me look even more credible with that little bit about the CPA exam. Considering I've already passed 3 sections first try on all of them (AUD 89, FAR 88, BEC 93), and I'm likely about to pass the last as well. The fact of the matter is that most of you are too retarded to even know what the CPA exam is, so the proof I've posted in in here has gone right over your heads.

Depends. There are multiple professions in the accounting industry.
Bookkeeping? Anyone can do that. Simple software like Creative Solutions, Quickbooks, etc. Support it. Even old school paper journal entry, or an MS Access program, anyone can do that. I would guess that 50-70% of bookkeepers have a degree in accounting. You need to be personable because you will deal with MANY small business clients or if you're in one enterprise, eh, you will deal with a lot of co-workers.
Tax lackey? Same as bookkeeping. I am referring to the turbotax and Jackson-Hewitt places.
Staff Accounting? Cost Accountant? You will likely need a bachelors in accounting, finance, or some quant field. You don't NEED one, but there are enough fish in the pond. Someone could make a move in their company into a position like that, too. Would a bachelors help? Yeah, it would develop the mindset, but again, the software does so much, but if you're trusted for analysis, then the orientation should be there.
CFO? You will likely need a bachelors in Accounting or Finance, a MBA or MS in a business discipline. A DBA or PhD could help, but not needed.
CPA (What this jackass claimed to be, then said he is working towards, then said, who cares)? You NEED a bachelors in accounting, in most states (if not all at this point) you NEED 150 hours of college coursework, you NEED 30 hours of accounting (not finance) classes, and one class needs to be in auditing and one needs to be in non-profit public accounting. What is recommended at most schools is an MSA program that runs at 150 credit hours. For your license you need to work between 1-5 years and get 2000 hours of work in a CPA firm in that time frame. Most people move on to other fields because accounting is boring, tedious and with the CPA you are attractive as hell for management positions.
