In other news, a fork effort has already popped up. They're also already up in arms about the fact that /g/ has caught onto the project.

There was a fork effort before called foss-audacity that got deleted for whatever reason (unless I'm looking at the wrong repos?), so I can't imagine this one being much successful either.
Also going all "f-f-fuck you 4chan" on your issues page, totally not asking for more people to fuck with you lol. So long Sneedaucity...

It's because of COPPA iirc, it's easier to tell kids to just fuck off instead of going through the effort to get parental permission and whatnot.
Wonder how schools will handle this, imagine trying to teach young ones about audio editing but Musescore/Audacity team waggles its fingers and tells you to fuck off.
They'll probably just stick with older versions of Audacity. Maybe some will move over to Ocenaudio, which in some ways might be a better option for young kids as it isn't as complicated as Audacity.

Total comment graveyard. The project owners seem to be more interested in taking advantage of the situation rather than maintaining a fork. Reminds me of Glimpse, the GIMP fork that went nowhere.

Along with this troon/troon-adjacent thing who published the list of packages installed on its (presumably) public-facing router, you can sure we're dealing with the best. https://github.com/emabrey/dd-wrt-settings https://archive.md/VTkBV

Microsoft trannies are blocking it from being visible on Github.
EDIT: @Coffee Shits I looked briefly into 'Emily'. It looks like it and its 'fiancee', 'Julia Colleen Evelsizer', sued the local sheriff's department and a local judge (fat) late last year.
Wonder if it's been evicted from 1440 S. Brooke Street, Apt. 2, Louisville, Kentucky 40208 yet?

Someone let papa Null know about this, it'll be the highlight of the week, prime MATI stream material.

I've seen this headline floating around the web along the lines of "AUDACITY IS NOW SPYWARE!" but when I read through the articles, it now introduces Telemetry and has an agreement in the TOS wherein it can cooperate with law enforcement if need be

Question is, how much does it affect Joe Averages like me that just use Audacity semi frequently for basic audio editing?

I already have a shitton of other programs on me that I know is sending Telemetry and whatnot, and I'm fine with the current version installed on my system. Is it as bad as people are ratting out for it to be like it's some sort of virus or cryptominer? Or is it one of those deep passionate issues in the FOSS community that people argue about?

lol
there's some random.txt grade material here
Looks like he got doxxed but it turns out, it was him posting his personal info just to get more attention.

This whole Sneedacity thing is pretty much an example of how not to react to 4chan fucking with a poll. I do think that this cookiengineer guy originally had a meltdown but ended up playing into it for asspats or something in the end. He was all over the place, one second saying that the evil trolls called his pinephone so many times, but it didn't crash, then the next post saying it did crash the phone. Now he's claiming that the trolls are at his door.
Even though he stepped down, I'm pretty sure the tenacity fork is doomed. At this point, it's either Sneedacity (which has a good chance of going the way of Tox when the fun has run out) or audacium (which is currently only maintained by one person).
It would certainly be interesting, to say the least, if Sneedacity becomes the go-to open source audio editing tool for privacy minded users.

Probably not at all, you can just stay on your old version of Audacity forever if it's working fine for you. It's unlikely that anyone's going to try scrubbing the old versions from the internet either.

The happening, so far

>Audacity got bought by Muse Group
>Muse Group added telemetry
>General freakout
>Many forks made, one by Cookieengineer somehow became the one people paid attention to
>Cookie started a Github issue to poll for names
>Sneedacity won
>Cookie deleted the poll and made a new one
>Sneedacity won
>Cookie went into meltdown mode and started deleting everything
>Cookie claims his Pinephone has been pranked called several hundreds times, first saying it didn't crash, then saying he had to reflahsh the phone
>Cookie believed "Sneed" stands for "special needs" due to the fourth entry on Sneed on Urban Dictionary
>Package got pulled from AUR due to "Special needs"
>Cookie got only a few hours of sleep and is very bothered
>Cookie stepped down, admitting that he has no experience in C/C++, and called for mass reporting of everyone related to the Sneedacity repository.

Wow, this thread over-delivered some good troon salt, only a month late

This is open source fork battle royale :story: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues/1245

There are 1.6k forks of Audacity as of today. And the number grew with 200 forks with in last day. The forks exist, we need to choose one. Leave the Muse Group alone. They may do what ever they want. It shouldn't bother us anymore.

Libre Office was ones a fork of Open Office, since it was sold to Oracle. And people didn't like it. Libre Office was the chosen fork.

I opened a voting page on LBRY here. LBRY is a Free Software, block chain network for publications. I'm afraid an issue here is not safe, Muse Group might close it.

More drama in discussions (archive)

1 hour after discussions were enabled, accusations of tranny cookiengineer being a homophobe, oh no! (really a quote in a twitter bio) (archive) https://archive.is/ZqK2T
