It's Ethan's personality, it's not a conspiracy. He's going to continue to convert his friends to enemies because his first instinct is to promote himself. If he was really concerned, he'd watch the video first without streaming his reaction, contact Gary if he really didn't have AZ's contact info and do some extra work behind the scenes. But he basically declared his primary means of communicating with his YouTube peers is over YouTube, which pretty much ensures that any and all problems will be made worse over time. Anything he has to say, he'll say it to a monetized stream first, then the (non) apology stream cleanup tour. AZ is only the latest to get burned by this approach though he had thin skin to begin with, and he won't be the last.
Ethan, why does this keep happening to you? You're a great artist, but you're not a nice guy and you're principle-free. If you didn't want problems over someone you were truly ambivalent towards, you know you could have done alot more to smooth things over once you were tipped off. As it is, you've only set the stage for yet another extended breadtuber civil war. Congrats! My advice is to make sure you throw more innocent family members into your next stream for sympathy points.

EVS, for all his flaws, had a 25 year old career in mainstream comics and was a superstar artist for a good chunk of them.
For all his numerous character flaws, he is talented and produce decent books and run an entertaining show and some social skills
Now, this is an extremely low bar, but most of CG/FM people fail even that and this is what makes a lot of his a-loggers to sound even worse cows than him, for a middle afed man whoi spends all day talking about comics and Star Wars, he is peak normal.

Conversely it's pretty much impossible to keep anything behind the scenes in any practical way if we're talking about drama between youtubers, especially when it's youtube friendship simulators. The friendship simulation being a huge problem on the FNT side with all those $50 and $100 donations. Fans that insane won't shut the fuck up unless they're kept in the loop, so once something is out in the open you're basically doomed to keep addressing it in a stream for as long as superchatters keep dredging up the subject. A quiet email wouldn't end anything, especially with the way AZ was so openly bitchy about the situation in the first place.
None of that is to say Ethan isn't probably trying to make the most of this stupid situation in his own way, but this one time it comes off more like it's about the messy arrangement of FNT having predictably messy results.

There are people in this thread who cut him a lot of slack for all the underhanded, sociopathic, backstabbing things he's done, large and small, under the banner of Comicsgate, because once upon a time he drew a Green Lantern that didn't suck, because they inexplicably find his four hour livestreams entertaining, and because they're desperate to consoom toy fucking salamanders. I still have trouble believing that last one, holy shit.
Ethan's not a cow, not quite. That's a symptom of the problem, that he's too fixated the threads he's pulling in his web of public image to let any truly cow-like behaviour through. He's adept at getting others to express that behaviour on his behalf, to his benefit, though as I've said before, even that has died down since the Warcampaign blowout.
So the a-loggers are worse cows than Ethan? Maybe. Like you say, it's not a particularly high bar to cross. But there are things that are still worse.

This all started because Az went on a passive-aggressive tirade after someone sent him a clip to stir up shit right before a major campaign launched. Az knows Anna and fragga really well and could have gotten in contact with Ethan super easily yet chose to stir the pot. The issue here is Ethan is making money from selling a product and Az/Gary make money from drama. Those guys made thousands of dollars from allowing hollywood to call all their fans nazis and crying about it.
Az is doing is a shakedown of sorts, he told Ethan to grovel at his feet or else he'd continue this nonsense thus risking sales from crossover fans. I find it hard to believe people who would spend hundreds of dollars on toys would be affected by this pity squabble anyways. The few who'd risk having to pay 3-4x down the road because two fat men are slap fighting are beyond help anyways.

He is making comics and collectibles that will remain in people's homes for decades. What is FNT doing that will actually have a long-term effect? A lot of the focus on the "culture war" is pure delusion and won't go anywhere. No one will remember these streams in ten years. For better or worse, people will remember CG. Some of us will still have stacks of books sitting in a corner somewhere from this... revolution. Some of them will even be passable! FNT/TFM exists only in a reactionary capacity. CG has moved on from that phase and at least become something remotely self-sustainable that produces things that people want (in theory). What's the end goal for FNT? The big companies have proven time and again that they will not listen to you. Without respect, we what? Keep buying their products because we have absolutely nothing of value to say if we're not bitching about said products? You fucking losers haven't "rejected" shit and haven't made any observable change. Grow up, zeroes.
