I used to watch this guy’s stuff all the time in 2013. Only review that was funny was Ratatoing because of how awful it is.

A TGWTG figure I would compare to him that ended his show much more gracefully was Paw. I’m not sure why Paw quit making Music Movies right before the whole group fell apart. Dude seemed humble and when he had a kid and started a family he took it seriously.

After all this time what does FB have to show for his efforts? He barely gets any views and there are newer more interesting film critics now like RalphtheMovieMaker. Check Ralph out if you haven’t—he makes reviews that get the engagement Matthew wishes he had.

For someone that wants to make a living as a film reviewer, he really hasn't seen many pre-1980 movies or anything not in English, he seems really poorly versed in cinema.

The TGWTG critcs are an interesting time capsule. None of them are particularly insightful, most just had "personalities"- which typically consisted of screaming and shouting their complaints like Daffy Duck and Seth Rogan had a baby together.

The newer breed of more successful internet movie critics that blend comedy with criticism are more in RLM's vein, calmer and more focused on picking apart what fails from a filmmaking standpoint rather than shouting about how stupid a Bat Credit Card is (even though that's perfectly in line with the tone of that film) or shouting SYMBOLISM!

As far as I remember, he's like Linkara rather than Doug in that he doesn't like it when people make fun of his extremely dumb voice. It's a shame, because OneyPlays making fun of him is probably a decent source of traffic to his content nowadays and he definitely hates it.

I mean you look at his letterboxd, most of the movies he watches is trash like that, the dude eats up shit like Captin Marvel or Sausage Party or whatever Disney shits out. If you want to be a good critic you need to have a somewhat understanding of the history of cinema and not just watch studio shit from the past 20 years.

Also, he gave Boss Baby 3/5 looking at his letterboxd.

Mat was very young when he joined TGWTG, I believe he was one of the youngest reviewers on the site. And he hasn't grown past that and seems sort of 'stuck', if that makes sense. During the years when he should have been getting job skills, building his CV, etc., he was making internet videos.

He wanted to be liked by everyone, particularly Doug, but the persona he played in the anniversary special and some of the crossovers is overblown. It was a (briefly) funny bit that just sort of stuck. I've met him twice in person and he was very very quiet and seemed very insecure. He had a hard time speaking up for things he needed or asserting himself. I know back when he went to cons, he and Welshy would often fly and room together and Welshy would often sort of look out for him.

Dude is a clown, can still get a job with covid after all remote working has been a big thing. But I get finding a job can be hard and can take time but not even trying to get one when you clearly need one is just crazy.

The issue is he would have to move on with his life, that he's no longer famous or successful enough to make fulltime Youtube videos. It would require him to do a lot of hard work in order to get a useful trade when it's much easier for him to stay the course and just blame Youtube or The Walkers for why he's such a failure in life. It also doesn't help that his hugbox support him on his beliefs so he feels no need to change. He's not willing to take advice, even if it's coming from an acquaintance like Larry Bundy Jr.
