I never thought I'd say this because I dislike Cosmo deeply as a person, but there is a part of me that does feel bad for him after finding out more about his family situation. He never really had much of a chance. His mom has been a drugged-out gibs grifting whore for the majority, if not all, of his life, his dad isn't much better. He is unable to make any head way in improving his own life because the things he would need to do are so alien to him. It would take years of intensive therapy to even get him the basic building blocks and to understand the concepts of being functional because his druggie parents failed him so badly. Or doing away with gibs all together, facing literal starvation is a great motivator, but that won't happen. The guy's fucked, and honestly he was always fucked.

100% agree. I think part of the sadness of the situation is knowing that even if he hadn't trooned out, it would have been something else, likely becoming an addict like you said. My sympathy does remain limited because Cosmo does nothing to try to improve or change himself or enter the normal world, even when people give him specific advice or even when he himself has moments of clarity where he admits troonery, speedrunning, and drugs have gotten him nothing. He probably was going to have a lot of failures and hardship no matter what road his life took because of his homelife growing up, but his stubborn refusal to learn from his mistakes or even try for basic things like getting a job because he thinks it's below him is his own fault.

His mom seems like a cluster B/borderline personality disorder train-wreck and addict to boot, which is pretty common for BPD. There’s really no worse maternal figure to have than a mom with severe BPD and addiction. Even just a abusive, cold, unloving mother would be far better in the long term than a BPD mom.

The endless emotionally abusive treadmill and freak outs BPD parent inflict on kids is horrific. They get the emotional whiplash of “I love you, I hate you, you’re wonderful, you’re a piece of shit I should have aborted you. I need you, gtfo” their whole lives. Bonus points for suicide baiting and attempts which are very common.

Cosmo being back under the same roof with his mom is the worst possible choice for him. They will just remain in a toxic codependent relationship until one dies.

One of the many highly ironic things about Cosmo is how much he hated the Sam and Tolki community because he hates any kind of advice. But I will tell you from first hand experience that the VAST majority of users in that subreddit really liked Cosmo and were gunning for the redemption arc. I was not one of them but so many people genuinely wanted Cosmo to clean his life up. Start small, get an entry level job, stop taking drugs, take a break from social media, etc. When Cosmo did take a break for the most part, many had thought the redemption hard had been completed and Cosmo was off doing great things. I, however, knew better.

Mainly due to the family issues that lead Cosmo to this path and keep him on it (a no good, drug addicted mentally ill mother) I do not ever see Cosmo redeeming himself. He's slowly but surely getting back to his old ways. Now he has another friggin hair session online? Jesus. And he's also starting to do his weirdo eating habits online too. How long until he starts blowing his nose and leaving a huge pile of used snot rags on the same desk he eats on? I don't think it is far off.

I don't feel bad for Cosmo and I don't see any end in sight other than a) anhero-ing or b) staying on government assistance and edging out whatever pathetic version of a "life" he can.
