Valve introduces Steam Deck

I know it's not going to kill the Switch
But I do want it to do fairly well, not only would it make Nintendo a little less comfortable (yes, I have be feed up more that a little with the big N's BS now a days) it would give another much needed push to mainstream Linux gaming. If you still haven't pick up a Switch by now, you would have to have a sub room temp IQ to pick up a Switch over this!
The major problem is no way in hell games will be optimized to run on this thing. The last time Valve ported shit over to a mobile platform was the Nvidia Shield K tablet in 2014, and having personally played the ports of games like Portal 2 and non-valve games like the Talos Principle, they ran like 20 fps max and most of the time way below that. While mobile tech has advanced and at least older source based games will probably run fine on this much beefier system, anything new will not have a great time especially with the power throttling necessary for a mobile device. How many people will buy a system to mostly play games 5+ years old other than indie titles?

It's agitating the Nintendo fans and they're now starting to turn on PC gaming. It's no longer "NINTENDO AND PC IS ALL YOU NEED!" it's now "Just Nintendo, Only Nintendo®".

Well if it had physical editions of games I would consider getting one.

But currently the Evercade of all things is getting physical editions of old games and some of this shit hasn't been ported to any consoles. Especially if it pans out that they get to release The Simpsons Arcade game and other rumored stuff. That got taken off of all major online storefronts, but to own a physical edition of the Simpsons Arcade game that's not one of those bartop arcades, man that's been a long time coming. One of their upcoming releases are the Valis games.

No way this will make Nintendo worry, I mean the PSP did just over 80million units in sales yet when the 3ds came out the res was lower than that and it only had one nub despite that being the thing everyone hated from the PSP. Nintendo rarely cares what others have done even when it makes sense to look at shit they do well and badly to avoid any mistakes.

Just ask yourself if Nintendo was looking at others, why is their account system so shit still.

If it actually makes Nintendo uncomfortable Nintendo will probably just start paying Japanese devs to not put their games on PC, or delay them significantly like MH Rise instead of actually changing their product lol.

MH Rise was an outlier, Nintendo hasn't thrown money at japanese devs because the genres tend to be in line with their own first party titles. Monster Hunter is one that doesn't have a Nintendo equivelent. And other games like Resident Evil 8 can't run on their hardware at all.

It seems a few smaller Japanese games have had deals in place even stuff like No More Heroes and Deadly Premonition 2 which means a delay in getting pc ports or on other consoles, however, got a feeling those deals are marketing one rather than Nintendo co-funding development like with Monster Hunter Rise.

which games from the last 5 years that require beefy hardware are even worth playing (if they don't already play it on a console or pc anyway) and fit the form factor?

it's like people going "nintendo just made a gameboy based on a DOA nvidia chip, who'd want to play on that lmao" and now the switch is eating sony's lunch, and this is while people are constantly complaining there are no games for the switch or beg harder for ports than even mustards.
say what you want about pc, but it has a shitload of games. if that's what you care about you'd get a pc, but with that comes all that icky stuff like dealing with windows, having to use keyboard/mouse etc.; plenty of games already work fine in big picture where all you have to do is press the big play button, except now there's a single hardware platform devs can target directly, so you don't even have to deal with configurations and incompatibilities and shit (which was part of steam machine's problem, next to shoddy software support).

the only real problem is that valve has no real "killer app", it's more quantity over quality. most people buy nintendo hardware to play nintendo games, no matter the memes about re-hashes and remasters, but otoh the few areas where valve has put effort in is making it easier to find stuff on steam for people too lazy and dumb. if they can figure out how to push the right games on people to constantly have the steam deck in use, it will sell itself. after that comes convenience is king, that indie game you like and can play on your couch or in bed by just turning the thing on is enough reason for people to pick it up. it's the same reason they buy a switch or console in the first place.

Physical games are dead and gay so no big loss. This handheld looks like it will flop but not as hard as the Vita.

Lol until the digital storefront closes and everyone starts panicking.

We've already had multiple instances of this happening, physical media isn't going away. Even piracy can't be trusted at this point to properly back things up.
You fell for the lies that console corporations tell you. Piracy is the only freedom we gamers got.

No the fucking Pirates back up unfinished copies or faulty broken shit and then this gets spread around as THE DEFINITIVE source(because they try and race each other to be first), only for you to open the file and realize they didn't do their fucking job and archive shit properly or even check what they had.

They're just as retarded as anything else. And at this point they're just as bad as e-celebs with wanting donations.

90% of these retards don't know how to actually computer and can just assemble repacks. Like they're worse than fucking pajeets. They don't know fucking shit about what's under the hood.

Just because you are too retarded to find the best place to get your games from doesn't mean we all must become corporate shills like you. Continue to consume my friend. It suits you.

Dude every fucking major rom site has had the same broken shit that's existed since time immemorial.

I mentioned the simpsons arcade in an earlier post, they still pass around the fucking broken version where you couldn't select multiplayer. The old buggy files never tend to die.

For the majority they're not curated, they're not culled, there's no quality control on what they offer. Most of the documentation is lost and even stuff from the PS3/Xbox 360 era era has become eroded because newer shit takes priority. There's zero upkeep to any of them.

The rom sites are effectively a dumping ground, they're not archives where information is kept and treated well.
