Money September 2, 2015: Chris moves to Etsy, suggests "donating to book #11 and beyond"

I'm not against someone making money for their work, but this is just too cynical. I reccomend anyone who is considering donating read this post.

Time was that Chris would churn out hundreds of comic pages for free, because he genuinely thought his franchise was the best thing since sliced bread and thought he would make a killing from it. Now that he's demanding money on a per-page basis it's clear he's lost all faith in it because it didn't turn into the golden goose he hoped, but is going to use people's money as an incentive to sketch up a load of old bollocks anyway.

It's clear now that Chris has become more lazy than ever before but has seen an opportunity to make some money from a donation campaign that has no structure or milestones or even a target amount, unlike a Kickstarter campaign, for example. He hasn't stated what he needs the money for, what he will put it towards in terms of improving his product, how many pages there will be per issue or even why he needs that specific amount per page. There are also no dates or any information regarding when we will see these comic pages, so you'd be giving free money to a buffoon who'd blow it on toys and shit, then eventually get around to reluctantly squirting out a phoned-in piece of rubbish for you when you pestered him enough or when he 'felt like it'. We've seen this a hundred times before.

Anyone stupid enough to donate is basically throwing their money into a black hole made of Lego. This whole thing reeks of laziness; he couldn't even be bothered to draw an image promoting the funding campaign, instead recycling the first page of the abominable Christmas Special and calling it a day.

Chris is offering you the chance to drop ten bucks on something that has no guarantee of quality, no timescale for delivery and wont exist until he arbitrarily feels up to it (if that day ever comes at all). This has been mishandled right out the gate and the reason for this is simple. Chris is not a businessman. He's a child.

People, I know as much as the next guy that it would be hilarious to see the continued retarded adventures of Chris-Tran Sonichu etc. but please don't buy into this. Make him actually work for your money.

This can't be said enough.

At least now it conveniently tells me how much I'd actually have to pay it from my money. So no thanks.

"$10 for One Full Written, Drawn and Colored Page in my current Book, makes a great difference and everyone wins."

It says there are 997 of those available. On top of that he will draw a Sonichu character for you if you donate.

This is perfect on his end. He gets money for no time frame at all. Are there Etsy seller ratings or somewhere you can report sellers? I really have a hard time believing we'll see a 100 page comic coupled with 100 character drawings. What if he only gets to 900 donations? Can he just close shop and forget about it or would he draw 90 pages? I have so many questions.

guarantee of quality
heh.

I'm not saying I would ever donate anything to chris, but the general consensus is that people want more sonichu. he sees a potential for income for something that he used to do for free, and I don't fault him for that. can you? people have been throwing money at him for a lot less recently (i.e. his selfies), it only makes sense from his standpoint to take it a step further and supply the things which people have been demanding for over five years.

if people want to pay for chriscontent, let them. we'll all be able to view/benefit from it soon enough anyway even if he doesn't make It public.

Or, or! I could donate to the Kiwi Farms. There's nothing entertaining about Chris with money.
it's mildly entertaining seeing how pissed some people get when chris does get money for his minimal 'efforts'.

I'd love to see an even less thought-out, more phoned-in version of sonichu. and if other people want to put the money up for it I'm not going to ask them to stop. you're not anti-sonichu are you?

Hope he doesn't learn about Patreon...

edit: Realized I forgot to date this 9-2-15. Since edits don't appear to let you change thread titles, could a helpful mod do me a solid?

With these high prices and his belief on how much he would make; chances are he knows that the court case will stop his payment and he's getting prepared for the worse.

And no, he's not saving up for actual things. We've all seen what he does with money

inb4 threadly "don't give Chris money. . ." aw, shit. Too late.

I'm not going to but I don't care if anyone does. Seriously, there's a shit-ton of Internet tard bucks flowing toward completely undeserving, shitty people. If it flows to Chris instead, that's fine by me!

I'd also love to see him start a Patreon, just to see it beat the shit out of Dobson's within a week. Dobbo might finally drink Drano.

Oh, also, Chris moving to Etsy is a smart decision for a change. People have been suggesting it for over a year. It's probably less easy for weens to harass him, too.

I'll never tell someone to not spend money on Chris stuff, but it should be mentioned that you could probably get some fucking awesome art thing from @Dollars2009, @_blank_, @BOLDYSPICY!, or @Trickie for $100.

I wonder if there's any way to get him to specify what he wants to be paid per page for new Sonichu.
This is just him stealing your money.

I am not sure what you mean. Each donation corresponds to one page. So if 900 people donate he will receive $9000 dollars and be supposed to make 900 pages.

Monetizing the comics is a tough thing to do, since there is no point in him trying to charge per read. It would be stolen and uploaded immediately. This doesn't strike me as a bad solution. The character drawings are not a bad touch. It helps to mitigate the impression that he is holding the comic for ransom.

I think his main mistake was not controlling the number. He would find it a lot less stressful if he planned out a 20 page comic and then solicited 20 donations. It might also help his sales if he were more specific like that. The reaction seems to be that people don't want to give him $10 with so few guarantees from him.
