r/opiates is more popular. There's also r/stims and r/cripplingalcoholism if you want to go down that rabbit hole. CA is an interesting one because they often have a chip on the shoulder about being "real" alcoholics and fight over who has the worst withdrawals. I'm not sure how it is now but it was definitely an lolcow community 3-5 years ago.

/r/methadone is my favorite simply because it lets you immediately find out why nobody wants to run a methadone clinic. The minute anything at the clinic goes even slightly wrong they're like "GET THE DAMN PRESIDENT ON THE PHONE I'M GETTING THIS DOCTOR FIRED."

I'm grateful that methadone exists but I'd jump off a fucking building after a few months of dealing with those people.

That puts a word to something I've been thinking about but couldn't piece together until recently. The thing that I hate about redditors isn't what they do, it's that everything they do is just window-dressing put on for others. In lieu of a personality they have a Lifestyle™ from whatever community they belong to. Whether it's consumerist, political, or even a self-destructive habit, everything they do has to be signaled to the community for approval and reinforcement.

With these junkies the most disgusting part isn't that they're junkies, it's that they're being junkies for attention.

You can see it in the way they talk to each other, too. It's so...performative and calculated, I think are the words I'm looking for? It's like they don't talk to each other like they are real people, it's bizarre. It's weird ass-kissing and "look at me, I'm saying the right opinion" and "isn't reddit a special club? We're all buddies here!" shit. And they are so socially retarded that they can't even make jokes without putting an /sneed at the end because someone might not get it and take away their plebbit points.
