Shrier's book is real good. My main critique is that it focused too much on the parents perspective. I really wish she talked more with young girls and detranstitoners. If you like her book I recommend Material Girls. I'm reading it right now and it's great.

I read Material Girls and I honestly thought it was OK but rather inconsistent and difficult to read. It made some solid points about sex and gender even though I found the writing a bit tedious and very long winded. I respect Dr. Kathleen Stock and I like her, but I guess academic writing and works go over my head a bit.

After Abigail Shrier's book, I'm going to read Debra Soh's book The End of Gender and I'm really looking forward to it. She seems like a cool person.

The “social constructs” associated with being a woman include them actually being women. When you see someone and say “yep that’s a woman” or “yep that’s a man in a poodle skirt,” that’s a part of the social construct. A man in a skirt is not “conforming to social constructs” of women, he’s conforming to social constructs of men who dress like women.

Transgenderism IS colonialist. Nobody outside of the West thinks you can literally become a woman with surgery, even if they have third genders or "compassionate" surgeries so you don't have to live as a gay man. And the way transgenderism co-opts two-spirit/third genders/intersex conditions is cultural appropriation on its own.

I’ve just started reading Helen Joyce’s book “Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality”. She’s one of those gifted writers who doesn’t resort to academic language for the sake of it.

Helen has also appeared on a bunch of podcasts this week, promoting the book, and she’s fantastic.

BTW I found the source of this, thanks to Singal. It's from a survey of plastic surgeons asking them to estimate how many of their (trans) patients displayed regret: non-peer-reviewed, non-random, self-report of what surgeons think of their own work, essentially. The only people these surgeons counted sought SURGERY for detransition (because they're SURGEONS how else would they come across them?).
