I can't stop, it takes up half the hard drive, has taken hours to download, runs like shit and crashes occasionally but having 50 billion classes that basically boil down to slightly different flavours of melee/sniper, rifle/explosive or pistol specialist whilst being a frankenstein of several different game universe is fascinating. Despite the issues its fun doing the xcom while being fucked by either mocx (xcom), the reapers, or an SCP mobile task-force

after a while I stopped looking and just started subbing to Long war of the Chosen modpacks so there is also probably 50 gigs of fucking useless cosmetic packs and at this point I want to see how far it can go.

Do you have a modding shame to admit to?

Almost never. The "base experience" of modern games is usually more than enough for me, and after beating them, I'm more than glad to just reach into the ol' backlist or fire up an old favorite again - I don't usually have much interest in playing it all over again with new mechanics that I'd have to learn. And, yeah, that's before having to consider all of the compatibility issues and such.

But to each their own. Games are about having fun, so don't let me tell you you're not having fun the right way.

No.

I mod games. Pretty often too. But usually I stick to a "vanilla-like" experience just with some UI or QoL improvements. Though I hold those improvements at a high regard, I'd feel very limited if I suddenly couldn't mod games when I wanted to.

But I don't have any hoarding issues. I download a few mods I find interesting and that's it. Rarely do I go overboard with it or spend hours browsing them. Whenever I start a new game known for its moddability I tend to find myself overwhelmed with the "essential mod lists" to the point I might give up playing the game entirely or at least give up on modding and just play vanilla.

I have over 500 hours in vanilla Rimworld.

I'm almost the complete opposite. I play New Vegas a lot, and I like to keep my load order light. The game is crashy enough as is. I can live without fancy enbs, and hd textures look horrible to me on low poly models. I never bother with porn mods because they require so many difference extenders and compatibility mods that it's not worth the effort.

However, I know a few games I get mod creep. Just a QoL here, a new bit of content there, and before I know it I have 40 mods, and all feel vital.

I use a few basic Morrowind mods to iron out bugs present in the base game, and for off-hand magic and fast spell/weapon switching. There are bugs like stats failing to return to normal after combination of disease and fortify that gets fixed by patching the .exe, and being able to cast spells without putting away your weapon, taking your hands out and casting keeps the pace up in battle.

I tried installing some mods adding more buildings and people to major cities and all it did was make the world feel cluttered, so I avoid those. Plenty to do without it.

I only use mods for very ancient games like Darkest Hour and Rome 1. The mods for these games significantly improve the game and change core mechanics. You don't really see that with newer mods - just reskins and bizarre alternative histories.

Funny you'd mention Rome, because last I played Rome 2 (a modern game) the Divide et impera mod pretty much overhauled the entire game down to base mechanics. It's essentially a completely different game just using the engine and assets of Rome 2.

I'm aware of this mod but I also see it as an exception to the rule. The most popular mods for Rome 2 like the Radious mod do jackshit and there hasn't really been anything like Impera since

The Talvisota mod recreates the Winter War in Rising Storm 2 with all-new weapons, classes, maps, factions and voice work.

I'm just listing random shit I remember playing these last couple of years, I'm sure there are a lot more total conversion mods people more into modding know about.

If it's more about fixing bugs, improving compatibility with new operating systems, or that sort of thing rather than changing gameplay mechanics, I consider those as patches, not mods. But maybe that's just fretting about terminology.
Considering they called it the "Morrowind Code Patch" I'd say you're right.

Did it actually fix that trashfire?

What is the aim if the radious mod? They seem to have one for every total war game in existence

In isaac you need mods to fix some retarded problems and make some characters actually fun

Fuck yeah, I do. Shit, I won't even play Oblivion without first installing Morroblivion because being able to explore Vvardenfell again with slightly better graphics and gameplay is a wonder.

I spent weeks and weeks playing GT New Horizons for Minecraft until I got to MV and quit because I realized it was just going to be more of the same stuff afterwards. Oh and because Gregtech's implementation of voltage drop is fucking retarded. I could get past all the autism of making screws and nails for everything but that is where I draw the line. Minecraft is supposed to be easier than real life, not harder!

After that I tried playing Blightfall. And I have to say, Blightfall was one of the best experiences I've ever had with modded Minecraft. After spending years building nuclear reactors and thaumatoria for no real reason it was nice to have something that had an actual plot to it to motivate you to play. It was great until my hard drive died and corrupted my map. I tried everything available to fix broken saves, but nothing worked. I haven't played Minecraft since.

I do like moddpacks that have an overall goal in MC. Dimension zero was one of my favourite modpacks where it doesnt feel like your doing all the magic and tech shit for no reason and gives a great introduction to all the different magic and tech packs

With Fallout: New Vegas, I try to mod it to be as close to the experience of the original Fallout games minus the clunky and random nature of the older games' combat. Multiple companions based on Charisma as well as a couple mods that keeps them from being too powerful, removal of skill tags and waypoints, UI similar to that of the original games, bulkier and more powerful power armor, and stuff that adds more content and life to the Mojave as well as the war between the NCR and Legion.

I think I have around... one hundred or so mods? Excessive, I know but I feel it helps bring the best of both classic Fallout and New Vegas together.
