Sentimental value I guess. I still like the feeling of putting in a disc or cartridge, turning on a console, leaning back on the couch and just enjoying myself.

Shame that's becoming more and more of a luxury by the day though. Especially since physical copies don't last forever and emulation for certain consoles are still spotty for most games.

Capcom decided to address the poor performance issue only after the game was cracked.
Piracy is helping the industry🌈

You do you gurll but if anything I consider not having to put a disc in, or worry about the condition of physical objects, or storing them, or transfering saves etc. etc. to be the luxury.

Give me a reasonable way to obtain the game at an affordable price directly from the developers, and I wouldn't have to pirate it. It's really that simple. I'm not paying $60+ for a buggy, day one patched AAA piece of shit (if it was incomplete to begin with, why should I pay full price?) Or $100+ for a loose copy of a 20-30 year old video game that can be emulated so easily.

I pirate games usually under the following conditions.

1) The DRM is ridiculous, or requires me to install an entire additional program to even use. I.E Origin. In that case I feel no issues with piracy. I'm voting with my wallet.

2) It's from a company that also sells a lot of other stuff I buy, especially if it's a game designed to shill said merch. Looking at you, SRW franchise. In that case I'll pirate because it's literally a zero-sum game; my money either goes to the merch or the game, and I'm spending the same either way.

3) It's an old game that isn't sold most places. In that case I physically can't support the developer anyway, so I may as well pirate and keep it alive that way.

In other ways, I'll pirate stuff like videos and music because it's an inherently uncontrollable medium operating on outdated business practices that need to die, and must die. Let me illustrate; imagine that you are a brilliant craftsman, pouring heart and soul into designing a beautiful gold necklace, worth tens of thousands of dollars in materials alone. Now imagine that you put it up for sale, displaying it in a locked safe so nobody can steal it. But, whenever anyone actually looks at the necklace, an exact duplicate instantly appears inside their own home, in another locked safe. And the only way you can distinguish the one person who actually bought the necklace from all the people who just viewed it is by sending the police to their houses and demanding they have access to all your private property in order to confirm whether you still have a copy of the necklace or not.

That's basically digital media in a nutshell, and I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that it needs a radical change to be even remotely viable in the coming decades.

Mainly because I want to spite Steam for shit business decisions that gets called open market that is a long term lose lose situation. Mainly in pirating porn like anyone who realize what is the internet for, taking my free share of porn and that include what Steam is doing for a number of reasons:

  • Not on my storefront/NIMBY, opening the storefront to find KaguraGamesTotallyNotARapeSim and even less subtle fucked up shit (Recently I saw a footfuck simulator as my recommend) just because you bought the Witcher 3 or something that isn't tainted with social justice shit. Yes I get we can hide it, but I am for transparency and accountability when it comes porn and would rather have a peace of mind knowing you didn't hide your rape content behind an 18+ patch
  • The other porn game storefronts can do that job for you and unfortunately because of Steam, a lot of porn game publishers are turning to it instead of DMM's storefronts, MangaGamer and Dlsite.
  • Gives EGS the perfect angle to pitch to the currently "socially conscious" market. "Hey I am not only offering you Fortnite money, but also you will get to enjoy a year where you won't share storefront space with footfuck simulator that gets flooded with positive user reviews because they are realy horny"
I love you Steam, but this stuff is going to be the death of you when Paypal and the credit card processors decides they are going to crucify you and I will be glad to catalyze the process

My personal autism is that if a game has DLC/expansions I want to have it all. If I'm going to play something I want the "full" best possible experience. Some devs are really scummy with their pricing (Total War series, The Sims, some Jap games) and that's when I pirate.
paying paradox for their shitty dlc model is unjustifiable and thieving from them is the true moral choice.

Sorry buddy, but i supported the console era from Master System to PS4 and none of my games are being made any more. Hell, my kind of games stopped being made somewhere in the middle of the PS360 gen.
And then we get the odd gem like Kingdom come deliverence, which came under fire because of a lack of niggers.

Putting money in to these companies is pointless when tossers on Twitter have more purchasing power than my money.
those tossers on twitter have zero relevance, the market works on it's own. there will always be lowest common denominator mainstream crap, but the one producing the niche content will feel every (non)-customer much harder. of course basic rules still apply, if I'm one of 5 people in the world left who like a specific type of game, no one is gonna produce a game for an audience that size, least of all AAA, no matter how much money I personally throw at sony etc. willing to spend money doesn't mean to be retarded about it.

if there is (enough) demand and will to pay, someone will supply it. and sometimes people do it just because they want to, just look at enderal.

I love you Steam, but this stuff is going to be the death of you when Paypal and the credit card processors decides they are going to crucify you and I will be glad to catalyze the process
>he thinks payment processors care when it comes to the biggest storefront on pc
morals don't pay bills.

besides, why do you think those games have an external patch in the first place? not to mention if push comes to shove valve can just kick them off and paypal & co will happily keep processing their money.

it also depends on the game, you can easily sell something like nekopara, the patch is just a bonus. that's also a burger af "icky sex" mentality, should valve kick of doom because some pansies have a problem with violence or swastikas but you can grab a blood/uncensor patch from somewhere else like it happened in the past? and what about stuff like san andreas where something like hot coffee exists?

Pornhub got a adpocalypse, Patreon got a adpocalypse I only pray that Steam doesn't got one since Lewd Idol Project had it's PayPal account frozen and the sheer trouble Super Seducer endured

Never was about sex is icky but "how can we extort the most victimized industry since no one will go to bat for them"

I pirate porn games all of the time since since f95zone is currently one of the best directories for almost every newly released game that hits the internet with a mega download ready. From pro-grade games published on Steam to those basic Twine games that a retarded 6th grader could make. Why waste time sifting through dlsite, itch, patreon, mangagamer, Steam, etc when there’s one site with a community that already keeps tabs on all of them and more?

To answer OP's question, because I'm literally too poor. Total War Warhammer 2 for instance with DLC is like $200 which is a good chunk of my rent, food and other things like vehicle registration. Second because stuff like Battle for Middle Earth isn't on steam, it's classified as abandoned. And Third, I like to have a separate drive where I can just boot up the .exe and not have it tied into a service platform like Steam. Which makes GoG games/piracy of them good for me.
I don't have any moral qualms or anything. To me it's just software and I do buy stuff if I think it's good or sink a few hundred hours into it. It's just that I also need to pay rent and eat and that's higher priority.

I don't know if Fagzone has been added to community watch but it should be.
1 & 2 are of a dev who responded badly missing a weekend deadline he said he was going to drop a public update. After about an hour a mod came in, cleaned up the thread by deleting posts, banned me and others for posting screencaps (3) while the dev made a post saying "Sorry guys, it was my mistake". https://archive.md/4Oon9
He's since hidden how much money he gets on patreon. Fagzone has a discord where they get devs to visit, I'm thinking they called him in there, told him what the play was because they didn't want to lose him and then bam, cleaned up to make it look like nothing happened.
4. is a patreon paypig. "Undermining the payment system." 5 and 6 is ThunderRob, a 55 year old from Canada who had yellow fever and started his own discord and used Fagzone like it was Facebook. He was banned a few months back "for being toxic" when he was one of the most prolific posters on the site. Ranli also makes $5k a month making gay daz shit.

So no, interacting with the room temp IQ community is something I wouldn't recommend. To get games, maybe, but not the community. 8chan/8kun /htg/ had a whole thread on them.

The site actively attracts devs there so they can shill their poorly made Daz-Renpy-Incest VN and then delete any criticism of their sacred cows when updates slow so the creator can milk backers. Because that's what these projects turn into, artists who use a good idea (Something Unlimited) and go from monthly updates, to 2 months, to 3 months as it becomes about the art not gameplay with them.

Damn I knew the community was shit but not to that extent. If their latest updates directory ever goes tits up it will have at least been nice While it lasted. I’ll still put feelers out for another site in the meantime regardless just in case though.
