I mostly pirate stuff I emulate, not like the companies that own many of the games make it easier or cheap to buy older games.

I also will torrent games that have been delisted, stuff I have a strong feeling will be bad but want to see how bad first hand, anything with DRM that makes buying the game the worst version, and any games that are overpriced and never given a good sale,

The amount of people here talking about emulation....imagine paying for a 30 year old nintendo game because the company realised they can sell you nostalgia and make bank with no effort (in many cases using other peoples emulators lol). Imagine feeling bad about just downloading the ROMs and emulating these games and calling that "piracy".

What would cause someone to think this way?

I used to pirate all my games, but over time (specially in the last 5 years) game cracks started to take longer and longer to come out, that along with Steam sales and free games made piracy almost irrelevant for me, it's just easier to download games from it than looking around a pirated copy that may or may not be infected, search engines giving worse and worse results as time goes on hasn't helped either.

Except if it's a developer or publisher i hate, in those cases i pirate without thinking about it

Isn't most abandonware technically in the public domain after a certain amount of time?
or is that only after the creator dies?
Abandonware is a grey area. Not in the public domain at all. The publisher and developer of Vex don't care if you pirate the game because they aren't even in business anymore. The insurance company that owned System Shock didn't care because they're an insurance company that has no interest in games.

I find it odd that EA was apathetic about Ultima 1-8 being on abandonware sites for so long. They were even kind of okay with a fanmade browser version of Ultima 4.

I've bought games that I specifically wanted to play, mostly on the switch these days. Most recently got disgaea 5 which was well worth the money given how much time I've put into it. I will almost certainly pirate 6 if it ever gets a PC port tho, because it seems similar enough to 5 that I doubt it will hold my interest

I exclusively pirate on PC usually just out of boredom. I rarely stick to any of these games for any significant amount of time

What kind of fag has to justify saving 80-100 dollars + getting free access to DLC and all the preorder bonus shit that they probably missed? Sure, supporting the companies is a good thing especially if you want sequels and whatever but vidya ain't cheap.

I don't wanna waste my money nor spend my time pirating a game, so I just buy them off cdkeys.
