Fat Acceptance Movement / Fat Girlcows

April getting a full Brazilian wax and her nails. What the hell is her channel even anymore ?

She starts her vlog by showing a shit ton of cardboard boxes from their moving, and saying "they make our lives feel messy and cluttered", and that she has to make an appointment to get them removed. Quite frankly, it seems like a waste. You can just remove the tape, fold them, and pack them up in a pile somewhere in the garage for when you might need them again. Those moving boxes aren't exactly cheap (at least they aren't in France, wouldn't know about the US, but it's still an additional expense).
And even if you don't want to keep them for a "what if?" scenario, even though it's fairly certain they'll move eventually again, what's the problem with her getting the cardboard to a recycling facility herself? She has a car and free time? Am I missing something? I swear, this confuses the shit out of me.

For the appointment, she parks about a block away and worries about "getting back to her car" after the wax. She also grabs meal preps for her husband on her way to the nail salon and, as I mentioned several times in my previous posts and will hammer it in once more - imagine having a stay-at-home wife that buys pre-made meal preps instead of cooking herself. What the fuck, April?

Her story about insecurities and doing stuff for herself would have more impact if we didn't see her constantly "spoiling herself". She's been getting her nails done throughout her weight loss journey, and constantly buying food treats or else way too much overpriced Fabletics activewear, so I don't see how her going to an expensive salon this time around is any different?

She mentions storming out of a first salon and being "'so offended" and her "feelings hurt" because no technician came to see her when she walked in without appointment, and another girl coming in after her got service immediately. Then, she apparently got refused service at a second salon because the technician told her they had no space when, once again, she showed up without appointment. April says that perhaps they hated her because she was fat, and that she went to cry in her car afterwards.

Finally, she found a salon through a YT chick she's been following. It looks fancy and they even has a menu, so April naturally got a "fancy" (read: overpriced) pedicure instead of a regular one. From the menu shots she shows, seems like the fancy one's price is explained by a scrub, warm towels, moisturizer, and massage cream. Again, being a Eurofag, I can't rate whether this is normal or not for the States, but here in France, a pedicure at a salon will automatically get you moisturizer and short massage, and the scrubbing is done with those special hard brushes to remove dead skin.
From the footage April shows, she got her lower legs scrubbed with orange slices, which is kind of amusing since orange is known to dry skin, and if there's any part of her body she should be using it on, it's her face, not her tibias. Also, for that price, she could've just gotten an actual full-body Thai massage, or else several medical pedicures, which is what she should be doing instead of going to a regular salon tbh.

Wat. I actually had to watch this section of the video to figure out what the hell she was talking about. "They come and pick it up." implies the moving people will take it away, but what the hell? You're right. There's no reason she shouldn't be able to do it herself.
Also, "Wouldn't you be scared too?" No. Because I fear not pain I've chosen for myself. I wonder if this is indicative of her attitude towards pain in general, working out, etc.
Those moving boxes aren't exactly cheap (at least they aren't in France, wouldn't know about the US, but it's still an additional expense).
Not cheap here either, which makes me wonder if the reason the moving company is supposed to pick up those boxes is because they want to reuse them.

This is a whole thing and I think it's indicative not only of mental issues in fatties, but also some cultural expectation issues as well. I could go on if you're actually interested since I think part of it is US-specific.

She's probably trying to jump on this woman (below) who made international news for being "fat shamed" by a gym who told her she couldn't just wear a sports bra. (Seriously. Look up "sports bra fat shamed" on google news. It's ridiculous.)

Good point - I didn’t think about the moving company wanting to reuse those boxes as an option, although it does strike me as a bit weird.

Completely agree for the attitude towards pain, and you’re right in that it might explain April half assing her workouts.

I wasn’t aware of that gym fat shaming story. Having watched the video, it is kind of dumb that they made her leave after telling her it was fine before, so I can understand being mad at the inconsistency.

With that being said, why would she exercise in just a sports bra ? And why wear just one with those boobs? (You know she was probably walking at a leisurely pace on that treadmill, not running, at least not with such poor support).

Not sure if there’s any actual rules about gymwear and decency, but the unspoken ones, at least in the chain where I go, seem to be that sports bras are a no-go if you’re not model tier.

Nobody’s going to bat an eye at a flat chested chick wearing some bra and leggings, or even a buffed gym daddy having a shirt that’s just two strings of tissue, but if your boobs are in the Ds or you’re just fat, it should be common courtesy to get fucking dressed.

If you want to talk about the meal prep thing, I’m all ears. Feel free to take it to DMs to avoid cluttering the thread.

Personally, I just assume the pre-made meal preps are because of April’s laziness.
I know “domestic work” is often undervalued, but I fail to see what does she actually do except clean occasionally ?
If your partner’s staying at home full-time, idk about you, but I’d kind of expect them to still do some shit besides spending my hard earned money.

From what we know, she doesn’t walk the dogs, doesn’t take care of kids for a lack of them, doesn’t cook, and I’m still on the fence about the cleaning & ironing because for all we know, she outsources it too off-camera.

So what exactly does she do except provide (probably) mediocre sexual gratification, because you know damn well she ain’t moving around much with all that weight ?

I would expect this from someone who doesn't care about proper spelling in her captions on the video. "Belive?" Really? You spend hours editing your boring videos and don't even use spell check or check your grammar? Her videos are utterly pointless. She's just crawling for dough.

It's less about meal prep specifically and more about the second part there. We can talk about it here and I'll grab some screenshots and videos to keep it on-topic.

I've been very lucky to have had both older and younger friends in my life (not just friends my own age) and to have been able to travel a bit, and one of the things I've noticed over time in the US is this strange-to-outsiders phenomenon where not cooking is sometimes regarded as a positive thing, not just a passively neutral or negative thing. It's easiest to show with examples.
Side note: I make a lot of blanket statements in here, so blah blah exceptions exist. Don't hit me.
Before I get into it, I just want to say getting food to rural people in large countries is a difficult activity. Check out these two maps for reference.
If we overlay France with the East Coast, there are plenty of US cities in this region as well as access to the sea and several international airports:
1.PNG

But if we move it out west
2.PNG

ONE major city, one international airport, no sea access, and an unusable lake. Sure the population density is low in these areas, but it does shape the culture more broadly and affect which products are sold in fast food chains and grocery stores across the country. Company X isn't going to sign a contract for fresh beef from Texas if that meat would spoil by the time it reaches Chicago. Whatever any company buys/produces has to sell everywhere.
Location
  • Rural Americans tend to go on fewer shopping trips since "going to the store" can become a whole-day activity depending on where you live. This increases demand for foods that are non-perishable or can be frozen.

  • As we've seen with Amberlynn, if you're in an area/city where you can order food, and you "have the money" to do so, then ordering food all the time is a sign you've "Made it" because you can afford to "Buy back your time" by having someone else cook for you. Rural Americans also like to emulate that by getting pre-made meals.
EG-mealdelivery-Aprchart1.png

School Food
  • US public school lunches suck ass, sometimes they're worse than actual prison food. For children who eat school lunch, this teaches them that what they're having every day is the normal way to eat (bulk purchased, microwaved process food in the proportions seen below).
  • Parents who do not want their children to eat shitty school food will instead pack them lunches, but this too means the food has to survive until lunch time since schools don't tend to have refrigerators where children can store their food, nor any option to warm it up until around high school when 500+ students get the opportunity to share a single microwave. So there's the pressure towards shelf-stable foods here as well.
origin.jpg

Culture
  • Eating a meal together around a table isn't a daily activity for many Americans. It's seen as a special event thing (e.g. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, Graduation dinners for students, dates, etc.) rather than a normal part of your daily life. For a lot of people I've known over the years, meals/food are almost more of a chore. Sometimes an enjoyable chore, but still in the category of "Something I need to do today" rather than "This is a break in my day."

  • Sweets and treats, in contrast, are plentiful and granted with abandon. "Kid fell down and is crying? Get an ice cream!" "It's a birthday? Have a cake!" Hell, "pizza parties" are a thing that many kids experience multiple times growing up as part of normal school life and into adulthood. Pizza Hut even has a reading program that's been going on for literal decades that's supposed to encourage children to read by rewarding them with pizza.

  • We aren't as bad as Japan, but America's culture of work means we do weird shit like brag about skipping meals or eat "meal replacements" when we're too busy to take a break. This has lead to a whole industry of meal replacements which - in my opinion anyway - add to that thing I mentioned before of food being something for small pleasures, rather than eating being a source of enjoyment. Even people who "Eat healthy" do this shit.
3.PNG

  • For those who are limited on time, they make a trade between cooking time and vidya/TV/sleep time. This means a lot of people will just grab something from the store on the way home, or throw something in the microwave. Check out this chart, for example. Supermarket food service is a huge category, bigger than fast food and normal restaurants combined.
0118_f2_americaeats_figure1.jpg

  • Compounding the above, a lot of marketing in the US (and worldwide, I'd imagine, but at least France has laws against things like advertising sugary cereal to children) treats food as a product rather than its own separate category of thing. So you see things like "15 Healthy Frozen Food Finds to Stock up on ASAP!" where products talk about the benefits of consuming their thing the same way a cosmetic company might talk about what their lotion does for your skin. The way food is reviewed is similar.

  • Lack of education about proper nutrition. I won't sperg too far beyond saying that I think the FDA did a shitty job of educating children about proper eating habits. I've lost track of the number of people I've met who don't understand the concepts of "Protein, Fat, and Carbs". Not even what that means for nutrition, they literally didn't know the difference between the three.

  • This is a new one I've only noticed over the last decade or so, but there's an idea of meal prep/cooking being "abelist".

Bringing it back to fatties, I see several things coming up time and again in this thread.
  • Fatties eating ordered-in food an pre-made food because they're "so busy" (e.g. April wants us to believe that despite her lack of a job she's still super busy, you guys.)
  • Fatties eating to excess or eating specific items to excess as a sign of wealth (e.g. Tess Holiday's Doughnut Ferris Wheel)
  • Fatties' belief that being "big and fabulous" or unapologetically gluttonous make them endearing to others (e.g. Glitterandlazers' now-deleted "Why order one dessert when you can have five?" video) because they believe it makes them come across as brave and carefree.
  • Fatties claiming what they're eating is healthy because "It has vegetables in it" and/or genuinely believing that what they're doing is "healthy" and life is just being unfair to them by keeping them fat. (e.g. Chantal's video on "Healthy Fast Food")

Regarding Marissa's assertion that it's "ableist" to assume that someone is able to walk, I legitimately have a question, and I'm not trying to shitpost. Doesn't "ableism" require that one actually treat a person differently because of one's assumptions about their abilities? Maybe this isn't done anymore, but I thought that special education teachers and other people who work with disabled people of all abilities were trained to always assume maximum ability, until proven otherwise. (@

I really don't understand what is "ableist" or bad about believing that someone is capable of doing a given activity, even if they might be physically or intellectually different. I mean, there are bilateral amputees who can run, people with dwarfism who drive, people with Down syndrome who work full time and have spouses or partners, and the list can go on. To me, it's far more "ableist" or discriminatory to assume that someone can't do something based on a superficial judgement about their appearance or intelligence. It's actually kind of insulting. Would Marissa be okay with someone looking at her and assuming she's unable to walk or wipe her ass because she's fat and disgusting?

Honestly not trying to dunk on her here. @MirnaMinkoff, @GenociderSyo, @Blonde Bomb, @LonesomeDud what say you? (I tagged you guys because I think you have knowledge in this area, sorry if I'm annoying.)

Common thread seems to be that we should be assuming fat people can't do things because the world is inherently biased against fat people.

Not annoying at all btw I enjoy answering questions.

I have never had a client or guardian ever use the word abelism or ableist. I have only ever heard this among SJWs and stuff.

Now on the other side I have had many people with Cerebral Palsy be upset about assumptions they were retarded. But they do not call this ableism they just stated that people should not make assumptions about them without attempting to communicate. They saw it as a common sense issue and realzied why people made the assumption.

The whole albeism thing allows people to put blame on others and not try to be indpedent on their own so even if it came up we would attempt to redirect it to something productive.

I wasn’t aware of that gym fat shaming story. Having watched the video, it is kind of dumb that they made her leave after telling her it was fine before, so I can understand being mad at the inconsistency.

Tbh I'm on the side of the woman complaining. It's actually quite normal to see women in leggings and a sports bra at the gym, especially ones that are large and have a lot of body builders or fitness models. I've seen plenty of larger sized women in similar outfits and honestly, if you have time to be judging someone's outfit at the gym, you're not working hard enough.

Maybe she's a little right. Maybe the salons didn't want to deal with a walk-in who was also a deathfat. That's a lot of extra work.
How do you even do a Brazillian wax safely on someone that big? Poor salon ladies...

Why even bother? It's not like having huge fake nails or ripping all the hair off your crotch will IMPROVE any deathfat issues. Lipstick on a pig aside, if you can already barely wipe your own ass, you don't need to add plastic claws to the problem. If you're already courting ungodly crotch infections, cellulitis, and beetus complications by simply existing, you shouldn't add the risk of ingrown hairs and infections. And, well, yeah- what's the fucking point? If you spend that time and money on maintaining actual basic hygiene, that's already a huge win for everyone. Stop sprinkling glitter on dog shit.

If I hear another hippo sapiens whine about how poverty makes you fat while sporting chunky talons, garish name-brand accessories, and flaking $30 lipstick... I swear to God I'm going to break out a flensing knife and start muttering about white whales. Soap costs a dollar, deodorant costs three, water is cheap, and putting the fork down is fucking free.

I don't give a fuck if you want to die at 45 but fucking WASH YOURSELF.

"Just make the machines bigger..."
Yeah no. Ignoring the fact that this is "just print more money" levels of stupid, why should they? Why should the rest of society have to spend more money and do more work to accommodate you when putting the fork down would be far easier for all of us?

If we are talking about MRI machines, where I live, we have open MRI for the morbidly obese. Insurance companies pay so much to cover bariatric services these days. No wonder why the premiums for most insurance companies are so high.

Hospital near me ONLY has closed MRIs the open ones live in private facilities so a morbidly obese person would be paying premium for mri. But as I undersrand it open MRI wouldnt make any difference at some of their sizes? My only experience is with a closed MRI and damn those things are loud and annoying.

If you have time to cry about the dress code, you're not working hard enough, either. Is there anyone who actually believes this girl was at the gym to work out, rather than to do 30 minutes on the treadmill at a leisurely pace and then reward herself with something fried?

I watched her video, and she didn't claim that she was singled out for violating the dress code, nor did it sound like she was specifically called fat or anything. My understanding of the incident was that she was just told to leave after she had started "working out" ( :optimistic: ) and contrary to what she'd been told upon entering the facility. Nobody called her fat or targeted her specifically.

I wonder if she was doing something that came across as attention seeking and was then asked to leave. It's like the "service" dog girls in the Munchausen thread, who love to go out in public with their unleashed, vestless, fake service animals so that they can freeeeek out when confronted about having a dog in a place that forbids them.

I think you're correct about it not making any difference. At some point, there's just too much fat in the way, and it's impossible to get decent views, regardless of imaging modality. The laws of physics are super fatphobic.

For MRI, specifically, the body part being imaged has to fit in a "coil", which is what detects the magnetic resonance and produces an image. These coils are just not designed to accommodate bodies past a certain size. Here is what the standard knee coil looks like, as an example. Imagine Danielle McAllister or Anna/Glitterandlazers trying to put their knee into one of those. Here is a sampling of coils for imaging the abdomen. Enough said there.

Editing again to add this hilarious case study I found while searching for bariatric MRI coils.

"Then a case is presented of a 30-year old female cervical cancer patient who received an MRI simulation to verify the placement of a titanium tandem and colpostats for brachytherapy. A large magnetic susceptibility artifact was detected near the right pelvis during the MRI scout indicating the presence of ferrous material. The source of the artifact turned out to be a disposable lighter that was stored inside the patient's pannus. The finding highlights an unanticipated risk to MRI safety and image quality associated with large body habitus."
