Superhot VR removes scenes implying self harm citing "sensitive times", steam users lose it. - Can we no longer be trusted with adult themes and touchy subjects?

aw man, it's all coming back to me now how good this game was...
I wonder if they're gonna go back and remove suicide from all their games? lol
Superhot VR is one of the only VR games from 2017 that hasn’t aged horribly, aside from the relatively small amount of content that gets blown away by even indie titles nowadays.

Here's the ending that is supposed to make you uncomfortable, which is being removed because it might make you uncomfortable.
This is my favorite comment on it.

"Video games can be so much more than military shooters and Italian plumbers. They can be art, and invoke real emotions!"
> Video game invokes some serious emotions.
"NOOOOOOOOOOO you can't do that! People are too fragile for emotions!"

While I was thinking of other games that end with shooting yourself, I just remembered Accounting+, another VR game which could arguably be considered even more egregious by these retards, because it makes suicide into a regularly used game mechanic played for laughs.

Can't wait for the "Period(s) of off-topic review activity detected." warning to kick in, even though the reviews are directly about the removal/altering of parts of the game.
Even if the devs genuinely feel bad looking at their work and how it portrays self harm or suicide, I don't understand the need to go back on it rather than accept that you made it in another time, and move on. They could even address it in a sequel, build on the theme in a way that fits their current views, etc.
If this type of "update" becomes normal, we could see it happen to other games. I'm thinking about franchises that get bought by publishers years after too. They might be tempted to edit whatever doesn't fly anymore in $CURRENTYEAR.

It's like Lucas altering the Star Wars trilogy. It's a question of when something the artist/creator makes that the public feels like they own or have a stake in. Yeah, they can do whatever they want with the shit make but it's more of an ethical question.

Can't wait for Superhot Revised where its just you patting the random red guys on the back to tell them they're doing a good job.

Without the ending it essentially makes what little story there is in the game have no climax, though I'll readily admit the story is pretty small.

It already is. There's been a few anime games that released uncensored, only to be censored with a patch later (sometimes even day 1). One of the more infamous was Skullgirls (if you call that an anime game) that censored various panty shots. Then there's various AAA games that patched in micro transactions after the reviews were out.

In Superhot VR, you prove your worth by shooting yourself in game, jumping off a building in game, then at the end, you destroy the in game pyramid and shoot yourself IRL to transcend into the network. It’s just a retelling of Superhot, but more extreme, and it’s great.

So the rampant murder was fine, but how dare they tackle suicide. Man people are dumb

Trust nobody not even yourself

i absolutely hate how it's impossible to have any reasonable discussion about suicide. what if killing yourself in vr is a form of catharsis for actions you can't, or don't, want to commit in real life? what right do they have to take that away, after introducing it? sometimes things don't get better. nobody is ever willing to hear anything that isn't straight up washing the problem away and condemning anyone who views it as a valid action.

the best part of showing people this game was seeing how long they took to figure out you had to shoot yourself, and their reaction to it. it's invariably entertaining. even cringetubers back in the first release days were into it. i've never seen anyone have a negative reaction...

The toggle itself would have been fine, Modern Warfare 2 has a toggle at the beginning of the game to avoid the airport mission, even if the idea itself is a bit faggy.

Removing the sequences from the game is pure cowardice.

another reason to just pirate everything: losing what you paid for because they devs retroactively decided you've been exposed to wrongthink.
If only crack groups bothered to release more VR game cracks, VR games get barely pirated afaik.

We must sanitize it further. We have the technology and twitter/reddit backing to make absolutely everything sterile.

Except when it comes to adding all the gay/lesbian sex options for all characters, the gender slider, and ability to intimately inspect your character's genitals to make sure they align perfectly to your headcanon.

Why couldn’t they just be like Doki Doki Literature club and add an explicit disclaimer on the store page and/or when you first start the game
ddlc only has any impact if you go into it not knowing it's a horror game. if you see the disclaimer anything it hoped to achieve is ruined. without the full shock value it's just HAHA PC FILES CREEPY shlock.
