It’s actually the way the AP styleguide requires reporting on suicide. If a reporter writes something else (ie committed suicide) and their publication follows AP style, it will get changed by whomever is in charge.

Well, now. That's interesting. I just looked up the AP rules for quotes and "[w]e do not alter quotations, even to correct grammatical errors or word usage." The article says that, in his email, he told them that, "there is no evidence of any harassment." Those words are not in his email.

They are trying to imprint something on your playdough brain and no matter how impartial they're trying to be, they are going to process what they say through their own interpretation of reality.

If you can't independently verify something, it conjecture. It doesn't matter if it's a respected publication, government agency, or university stating it. It's bullshit unless you can prove it yourself.

Unironically, Null, this is a hugely important life lesson that this website has already taught me. Spending time here actually lead to huge turning point in my political views. I used to be somewhat distrusting regarding potentially biased slant, but generally believe the basic facts as reported by the media. But hanging out here and watching live, primary video of various happenings and then watching the media lie through their goddamned teeth about it unchallenged made me realize exactly what you're saying here: that I need to assume major media outlets are lying if their lips are moving. If I can't verify it, it's propaganda. I came here to laugh at cows, but your philosophy towards the free availability of information has made a real impact that I was not expecting.
