You asked why people getting vaccinated is in the common good.
No, that's not what my post said
Not true at all. The covid vaccine is far less dangerous than the disease itself, even in the very young. Stop getting medical information from schizophrenic spazes
Just untrue. The rate of mortality for COVID, even taken in the most overly broad sense (eg. including all deaths that incidentally occurred while the patient had COVID) is lower among young people.
Why would it be? With billions of people getting vaccinated, there will probably be a few side effects. It's in the interest of the public for everyone to get vaccinated, so giving manufacturers an incentive to manufacture them is okay.
Pharma companies are making billions and billions of dollars selling COVID vaccines. They're not doing it "for the public interest", and if the rate of injuries and deaths is truly going to be as low as you believe it will be, it would cost them proportionally nothing to cover them.
I trust the 99% of scientists and doctors who say it's perfectly safe. Apparently you think that 1% of scientists/docs will be harder to corrupt than the 99%, which makes you kind of naive
1) The scientists working at these companies clearly do not believe the vaccine is perfectly safe, hence why the companies deny compensation for any hypothetical injuries or deaths arising from the vaccine..
2) A "consensus" of scientists that a seemingly dangerous product is actually safe means nothing. At various points in history you would have been injecting yourself with mercury, smoking cigarettes, snorting cocaine, mainlining heroin, undergoing lobotomy, and swallowing tapeworm eggs
at the explicit instruction of doctors and scientists. The common denominator between all of these things? Companies were making a lot of money off of them. These were all much smaller industries than COVID vaccination - both in terms of the direct pharmaceutical profits and the indirect economic effects of having the general population vaccinated and ready to work again.
I never understood the people who don't fucking understand that vaccinations are a bit different. There are billions of people on this rock. Many of them (in absolute terms, not proportionally) will have a bad reaction to even 'normal' vaccines like the flu shot, MMR, etc.
If we allowed those people to sue the manufacturers, there would be no vaccines. Ever. It's that simple.
If a pharmaceutical company performs a risk-benefit analysis of deploying COVID vaccines and decides, "We cannot justify making tens of billions of dollars selling this because it might maim and kill so many people that we're sued into insolvency" (like you say is the case) then that vaccine has no right to be deployed. Legal immunity for the company is insane - it's an implicit recognition that the risk:reward ratio for the vaccine
isn't worth it and a greedy measure to throw the results of this judgement aside, all in one.
