Closed Species - Pay $500 to draw a bedazzled fox

Not to beat a dead horse, but closed species that allow this much freedom, just adds to the ridiculously strange customs of these groups. It gives more reason to argue, I can create a "insert closed species" just don't call it a "insert closed species."

This is the most creative Chimereon design. Monke

As an independent design it's neat....but seriously how is this a Chimereon? Because it has a curl tail and a nose horn? They should reign in the customs.

This is a great thread.
Something I noticed about closed species is that those which start with a strong, original look eventually dissolve into just-another-clusterfuck-species as the creator struggles to meet demand for variety. You can see this in Grem and Kebanzu and other species which branch out with augmentations in a similar way: more horn types, ear types, crystals or scales growing out of or on their bodies, suddenly fish tail for no reason other than adding options and special restrictions to milk money from.
The result is that eventually all of these species look incredibly alike.

Even if they don't, there are only so many colorations and patterns you can give to people before they become garish and stupid.

One way or another they all wind up bad. Either they add so many features that they don't even look like the same species, or they all look too much alike because they're too restrictive and boring.
This is already the case with OCs of common animals, in my opinion. Who can honestly tell the difference between a "popufur" OC like Sherri Mayim and a random black cat? The sparkeldog craze was partly driven by the sameness of normal animals.

Oh absolutely. And I mean, there's always gonna be similar ideas/designs kicking around, especially with more 'basic' critters, but I do groan sometimes seeing CS designers churn out designs that all look samey. Or non-CS designers, for that matter -- e.g. folks like BratBlush.

It just goes to show that even someone with technical skills isn't always creative.

In a stunning crossover with the SJW art thread, some loony troony, disabled "ice cream cows" (archive). Yes, this is actually a closed species. Not the ones I talked about before, but still ugly as sin. This is also a raffle you have to pay for, which is pretty scummy, in my opinion. Basically just a lootbox. Imagine paying 35 dollars for a chance to win these things.

There was another ugly loony troon set (archive, the image failed to save there for some reason), but this includes the exceptional flags and even third-gender shit that I don't know. To be fair, most closed species artists shilled for pride, but the ones I posted above are recent and therefore... the clownery continued after the money shill.

From the traits list (archive) it seems like the original creator just made them mediocre "thicc" girls, but she ended up recruiting clowns and joining their circus. Thankfully for my sanity, the funniest part is that the pride month ones only sold 2/18 (despite being a pride event that launched a month ago). And fortunately for the raffle-goers, as horrible as their taste may be, each buyer only purchased tickets for one adopt, and two are still left completely open, so they'll probably get the ones they want. But it's only been open for two hours, so I just have to be :optimistic: for the people who could get lootboxed out of their cash if someone else pops in the raffle.

Ugh, ice cream cows. They are so ugly and they have had some really freakish sales lately. There was one recently for some conjoined twins or something that was super weird.

A shame, I actually kind of like the Carrot Cake cow's outfit. If only it didn't look like an ugly troon blacksmith it would've been an okay design.

I remember someone on tumblr doing this some years ago, calling the adopts "disabled dearies" and tumblr in it's sjw crab bucket mentality tore the artist a new one. The artist meant to celebrate disabilities but tumblr saw it as the characters getting reduced to that while the artist banked on it or something.

Late but this is pretty much exactly what happened with Esks. Originally they had a very generic four-legged monotone mammal critter design with a plant or mushroom or whatever, but as time went on their designs got more and more variable and convoluted so that now it's hard to even tell they're part of the same "species" or whether something is actually an Esk or not.

Friend joined a free myo event and got into a argument with the creator of the closed species because their dragon had whiskers...
