There is a reason Democrats pushed for that federalized election bill. If they could just repeat 2020 again, why burn political capital on such a risky bill that will face such steep resistance? 2020 was a unique conflux of events they won't be able to repeat twice. Hence their efforts to 're-fortify' the election federally. A big part of what they need to maintain is the union support that would allow it to function.

Good point. I realized they are really scared they can't do it again because of that Politico article from a few days ago preemptively blaming "voter suppression" laws for losing the House. It's basically a greenlight for Dems to throw in the towel on midterms and start blaming Repubs.

I don't think there is any prison system in existence that can justify prohibiting transparency, especially in the wake of horrific stories coming out from those within it. It's mind-boggling.

Is there a thread about the prison/carceral system in the United States? I'd definitely be interested in contributing to it if that were the case. There is a lot to discuss, and, I'd argue, a lot that needs to be discussed.
