Absolutely nothing. The thing with such a tactic is that it is a giant game of chicken. Strong arming the states incurs a rather steep cost over time to the federal government, a cost which will be felt well outside the states it is done on. Hence why Trump never did it. But Trump had other options which cost him way less, he had the luxury of choice.

On the state side in this game of chicken is the fact that it does hurt the state in question a -lot-. The end of this game is based on who blinks first, who feels the damage to them is too great to continue.

The thing you miss in this is that this is the tactic of someone who LACKS charisma. If someone has charisma, they could have avoided this being a necessity to begin with. This is and always has been a tactic of last resort for the presidency. Done only when Capital is so low as to make the cost of doing this pale in comparison. After all, if you already have 0 Capital, what Capital will be burnt in the process?

It really is a desperation move, wow. The Feds have to keep every state in line for this to work, and it'd only take a handful of the red states to successfully hold out under the pressure to ruin the entire messaging. If say Texas and Florida hold out, stay open, and report similar low death rates without the subsequent economic disaster of lockdowns, there's going to be this huge caveat in the public perception reinforcing that Dems fucked up.

Hell, they could net bury themselves harder if they ended up with another Nursing home scale fuckup in the lockdown process. Sure, the Feds can't bury themselves any deeper, but the Blue states will pay the political price for them. I wonder how likely it is a few of them even join the "no" crowd. Definitely not Cali or NY, but I'm sure there's a few dem governors out there second guessing the value of going down with this administration.

According to Jack Posobiec, his sources are saying delta lockdowns are a done deal, all blue state governors are onboard. Lockdowns to start second week of August.

I'm going to be in Maine in the second week of August. If that's true, I'm stuck there.

The Washington Post released an article tonight citing an unpublished CDC report that shows the delta variant spreads just as easily from vaccinated people as unvaccinated people. Apparently this is the information the WH and CDC will use to justify the lockdowns in August.

So the vaccinated was proven useless, but o still get blame by the media for no having the shot.

Locking down right before stimulus is up? Right as school is about to start? Right as employers were setting "return to office" dates?

It's funny because them leaving COVID alone for a while is one reason his poll numbers were sorta fine. But every time they direct their attention toward something, they fuck it up so badly that it tanks the numbers.

I'm not very hopeful about it, but if Virginia elects a red governor this year, I don't know how the federal administration will react. The reason it's a bit different this year is that the CRT and COVID school wars are happening right in Fairfax and Loudoun County, suburban Dem strongholds that majorly tilt the numbers in Dems' favor. It will be a major tell on where the public is on this because it could basically decide the election. If enough Dems are pissed, all hell is gonna break loose as Dems try to cover their asses.

I belive his poll numbers are good there because there are no lockdowns. If you start doing lockdowns again that probably will hurt the only good poll he has. As people are fed up with this shit.

It's what has me dubious this will actually happen. Great, you get roughly half the country to lock down again, then what? Florida, Texas and the like won't be following suit, and unlike last time those states won't be giving into the insanity given the current politics. There's also a lack of major issue - i.e. election - to use it as cover for, it's basically throwing the last vestiges of goodwill away for nothing.

Though on that note:

This does seem probable, especially given how quickly media has ramped up the "hate the unvaxxed for your suffering" narrative this week and have put out the first feelers over booster shots. What I also suspect is they want to use this as cover to push further stimulus (and extend the eviction moratorium) given how fast that cliff is approaching. Really does seem like the intent is to go all-in on this, but this isn't 2020 and there's no orange man to suck up all the blame.

Also good to point out if they wait for 2022 election to lift the lockdowns that would be insane. Because the second lockdown would be even longer than the first in that chase.

Oh, it's worse than that! I've seen a lot of animosity from those who have already been vaxxed who aren't happy that they didn't get any of those benefits. There's very much a developing thought process (or realization, if you want to be a little less polite about it) that the Biden administration is throwing those who did everything "right" under the bus. You got the vaccine early? No perks for you. You took off your mask because we said it was okay? Guess you shouldn't have done that. Well, shit. So I was going to go to Japan when this all started going down. I did the right thing! I canceled my flight, and got a flight credit that's good for a year (extended to two, thankfully). I somehow don't think it's going to get extended again. Love to throw literally over a thousand dollars down the drain because I listened to the science.
