Sounds like Barb has herself a Prisoner's Dilemma (assuming there's physical evidence of intercourse)

Either she:

a) testifies that Chris forced himself upon her, then Chris goes to jail for rape and Barb is seen as an innocent victim,

or

b) admits to voluntarily participating in the sex, whereupon it's an incest charge for each of them (which I believe is a minimum 1-year sentence for both Chris and Barb)

Keep in mind you have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of the guy while the extent of their knowledge is "transgender autistic person harassed by evil trolls on the Internet". Chris is a good example of someone who becomes less sympathetic the more you know about him.

You have a mother and child you believe have committed incest- a felony. It can be argued both of them are incompetent, except you've got more hate for the child. Do you go to court and risk the defense attorney cleaning up Barb and bringing her into court to testify that Chris dindunuffin and Chris claiming he is incompetent and all the talk about messing with mom was all a fantasy?

Nope, you do what cops always do. You build rock solid evidence and turn one against the other. You get both of them to admit they had sex and it was consensual. You act friendly and pretend it's no big deal. If it's hard to get Barb to admit it, just tell her that Chris will be up on rape if she didn't consent. She'll sign a paper saying she is of right mind and consented in a heartbeat. Then you have the axe of justice hanging over both of their heads. You can pit one against the other. "We'll let mom go with a warning not to do it again if Chris pleads guilty to everything." Once they've established it happened with one or two confessions, then they can say Barb is incompetent.

But as it stands right now, Barb has not yet been declared incompetent. Chris doesn't have power of attorney if I'm not mistaken. He is her caregiver in the sense of an aid to a handicapped person. Not someone who is their guardian. Null seems to think Barb has control of her own finances. That means there is no power of attorney. These are two legally independent adults.

I'm not sure the recording will hold up in court since it was made without Chris's knowledge by someone of dubious veracity. The only way the cops can lock this case up is to get a confession, better yet, two confessions.

Clamming up and lawyering up would be the wisest course at this point, but the Chandlers aren't exactly wise.

Don't be autist.
They have a pulldown menu with prepopulated crime descriptions on it when they create this entry. This prepopulated list to pick from is not infinitely large.
The clerk merely picked the one that closest matched the crime.
It is not overly important at this stage since this is just a rough guide to what the actual charges.

It is like when you do your tax or census. The pulldown menu might not have an entry for exactly your job description, so you pick something close enough.

However, in this case the description is perfectly accurate. The crime is incest between a parent and a child.
Barb is the parent, Chris is the child. Chris is the perp.
