Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Dying industry news:

June 2019 had one less shipping week than 2021 so actual increase is smaller. To me interesting thing is that DC didn't shrink at all in 2020 so we can probably say that they made correct decision in moving away from Diamond.

But Diamond seems to be recovering fine as well:

Putting "ComicsGate" in your campaign would be like that My Pillow guy putting "Republican and Christian" on his product and in his ads. You might wear your political affiliation and ideals on a t-shirt, you also might talk about it in interviews, and wear a little cross around your neck, but it's not really a label for your business.

But I might start doing it if I win the trademark. I'll think about it.
Realistically, how many people do you think buy MyPillow products and don't know that Mike Lindell is a Republican, a Christian, and a former crack addict? I've never bought any of his stuff and I knew all those things. How badly would his bottom line be affected if he sold pillows with Jesus Fish on them? He already sells Bible story pillows for kids. He spent lots of money on infomercials telling the country that Trump won the election. His politics and his faith are as ingrained in his business as his name is and he is still making a killing. He's selling to an audience that already falls in line with his faith and politics and does so in such a way that it doesn't matter if it turns off people that don't share his views.

Same with CG. Ethan Van Sciver is CG as far as anyone outside of CG is concerned. Your backers know exactly who you are and what you stand for regardless of how many SJWs on Twitter call you a racist or how many times that buffoon Rich Johnston reeeees about your misogyny or homophobia or whatever the fuck he decides to vomit up. Even if you never mention CG in your campaign, your name is on it and that's been dragged through the mud for years by people with mainstream platforms. Your backers don't care and if any potential backers would care, I doubt there are very many of them.

Are you seriously saying you think putting the term "Comicsgate" in your next campaign would have a noticeably negative impact on your business?

No, I’m saying exactly what you’re saying. It’s redundant. But I might do it anyhow.

You realize there's a whole smorgasbord of content at the farms? You should do a little less obsessing and mancrushing on EVS in here and a little more exploring.

By the way my profile is open to see you lazy faggot.

At this point don't blame a lot of companies for doing the bare minimum "we stand with BLM" bullshit after the takedown of King George. Hell even Call of Duty, where they used the famous Yuri Bezmenov interview in their Cold War game promotion (and you can run across colorful usernames like "Coonhunter2347"), had to throw up a BLM support screen for a week.

It sucked but I think we have to separate low effort, bare minimums from companies that went all in on woke bullshit.

Let it go.

It probably is. But if your going to force young, struggling creators to limit themselves over 'principles'....

You could do it to spite @PocketJacks. Just saying.
I don't spite my stalkers.
Let it go.

I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. "Young, struggling creators" who want to enjoy the staggering sales possibilities of indie comics outside of the ComicsGate customer base, which seems to be loyal to IndieGoGo, are welcome to go try that. From the reaction that I've seen of customers, Young Struggling Creators are going to lose a lot of ComicsGate backers. Will they gain enough to cover it? Maybe. Everyone is anxious to see.

This sounds like a different thing than "it's redundant".

Forgive me if I seem obtuse but it's not really redundant for anyone that isn't you, is it?

Like I could see you personally not having to put a big CG logo or whatever all over your campaigns because you're so linked to the movement itself, it kind of goes without saying that it's a Comicsgate thing.

What I'm trying to figure out is why CG seems like something of a dirty word on IGG with creators that have claimed to be CG on projects promoted on CG channels. Nobody even throws down a hashtag at the end. I don't see why that's the case if everyone is proud to be CG and IGG is a (please forgive the term) safe space for CG creators where they don't have to worry about being canceled.

I'd figure a guy like Malin wouldn't have a problem repping CG loud and proud on his campaign page like he does everywhere else. He's the biggest champion of IGG as of late and has taken the hardest line against anyone that claims to be CG and dares to use Kickstarter. Why doesn't he have at least one "#Comicsgate" on his campaign page somewhere?

It just seems kind of odd.

I'm guessing @FROG has me ignored, which is why I can't post on his profile or DM him? Not sure how that works on the farms, only thing I can think of. Don't even recall posting anything controversial in the CG thread (and I'm a CG supporter and fan of his) but then again who knows?

But hey, if someone would like to tell him, the email his action figures campaign sent out 5 minutes ago goes to "http://https//igg.me/" -- which doesn't work. Missing a :. Needs to go to https://igg.me/ instead.

I guess I just disagree with you that it's odd.

"PRO SECOND AMENDMENT" or "NRA" doesn't seem to appear on any of the advertising for Smith & Wesson or Remington firearms. Do you think they're ashamed to be in support of either of those things just because it isn't emblazoned on their product or ads?

Frankly, I just never thought of doing it. #ComicsGate is why I'm able to make CyberFrog comics, in my opinion, but CyberFrog comics are a product of Ethan Van Sciver of All Caps Comics, not ComicsGate.

Even still, more and more people are asking me how to locate and identify campaigns that are associated with #ComicsGate, so I might start adding that to my campaigns, and encourage others to do the same.

You're the second person to tell me they can't post on my profile or DM me. Maybe I did that by accident, I don't know.

Thanks for letting me know about the link...I fixed it and re-sent the email!

Maybe getting validated on the farms changes those settings to a different set of defaults or something.

Your asking them to forgo expanding their customer base to make a statement. For Richard C. Meyer. Who, despite creating Comicsgate, comic books, and ink; refuses to even call himself CG.

You and the Kangs made clear they would be banished. Is it any surprise that your people follow your lead on that?

If Simple Zach doesn't have to fight on hills for 'da cause', why do they?

This surprises me. What exactly are people buying at this point?

I don't think they are. Remember, Comichron started using funny 'estimates' during COVid.

Even before that, people were playing games counting crowdfunding and shit to buff the comic market up.

they can fudge up the numbers all they want to. The fact that customers on both sides of the political spectrum aren’t buying their comics and their artist and writers are constantly getting laid off can’t be covered up.

I dunno guys, I heard if Doug TenNapel has to go on Steven Crowder or Nick Rekeita's shows to sell his comic, he doesn't have a sustainable business. And if he fails without their help, he deserves to fail.
If he genuinely did fail it would have to be for negative press from his extracurricular activities because he has had a really good track record for putting out good work in timely fashion. He's getting his books out there, which is the CG dream. In my opinion his Youtube stuff doesn't seem to translate too well to his comic books because he was building a political commentary brand. But at any rate this isn't about him failing, it's really about him being more or less successful than Ethan. That's actually what most of this back-and-forth is about.

If Doug is jealous he really shouldn't be. Ethan's success has involved a constant rotation of allies and a growing stock of enemies derived almost entirely from the same group. Behind the fake joviality there lies a compulsion. You might say it's competitive if it weren't for the fact that he's learned to get what he wants from people by playing dirty behind the scenes and doing his best to janny it up in time for his normie base. For anyone to fall for his bs here of all places is endlessly fascinating to me!

This is the second time you did that this week. I'm becoming a fan.
Uh-oh Dongs! You better watch out he doesn't take you from Pizza parlor to parking lot. Now is the time to lean in on that secret comic book project you never knew you had.

I have gone months without posting in this thread, mostly because people like you have all but ruined it. Maybe you should do the same.
I for one can recognize true restraint and courage in the face of such desolation. Other people might have shrugged it off and kept posting but you knew the best thing to do was simply walk away. Discussion threads should only be tolerated as long as there aren't any strong disagreements over time. Threads should only be here for the mutual enjoyment of like minded fans who just want some validation for once. It was thanks to your heroic efforts that this thread finally learned to become an extension of EVS' merchandising efforts.

Take a bow! And a knee! And a comic book... from someone... eventually!
