The Final Fantasy Thread

Does it fix the biggest fucking problem with FF3, the massively fucked final act where you, with ZERO save points and limited resources to heal and resurrect your dead, have to:

  1. Go through a tough as shit maze surrounding the final castle, to get to said tower
  2. go to the basement of said tower and fight through a huge underground lair filled with some of the toughest monsters in the game, to get the two top tier A+++ jobs that can only be unlucked there AND fight your way back to the tower
  3. Then either A. exit the tower and pray you can get through the maze surrounding the final castle so you can save and heal and resurrect your dead and restock your supplies THEN go back through the maze and back to the tower or B. start the climb up the tower, which can take about an hour to get through due to the size of the tower AND the number of ultra dangerous enemies you'll face with rapidly dwindling healing supplies
  4. Fight the big bad and live
  5. Watch the previously unmentioned and introduced in the final act REAL big bad, appear and drag you into another major dungeon hell
  6. Fight through four MORE dungeons filled with more ultra dangerous enemies and four new sub bosses for the REAL big bad that are super fucking tough and cheat like fuck in battle against you
  7. And if you survive THOSE four bosses, you have to fight the REAL big bad and she's a cheating motherfucker and then some.
?????????

That's always been the biggest complaint I've heard about FF3, which is to say that it's pretty much a merciless bitch goddess to play in any and all form save for emulator, because the final act is such a cruel sadistic death march of suffering, that it's pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to beat unless you are playing it on an emulator since only on an emulator, can you save on this death march of suffering and horror that is the final act.
Oh they fixed it. They nerfed the two super classes so now it's even harder.

Come to think of it, Final Fantasy 1 is older than most of us here, yet it just now got its very first release on Windows, ever. Took 'em 33 years, or a whole third of a century. Fuuuuuuuuuuck

WTF...$75 for the entire collection on Steam....well this sucks. I assumed the entire collection would be a wee bit cheaper considering these are older games, and I have literally all of the other versions on steam. Are they going to be separate purchases on consoles (if they come on console)?

I just realized the preorder is 22% off. This is some Squeenix bullshit. Hard pass. I will wait and see if there is a christmas sale.
Not a surprise at all considering they're notorious for being the only major game company to sell phone versions of their games for up to $30. Romancing SaGa 3 is a SNES game, and they're asking $28 for it. No free upgrades or discounts for previous buyers, either. It's like they live in a world where emulation just doesn't exist.

Just pirate 'em, dude. You already paid for them by buying the old ones.

Are any of these FF1-6 remastered games available on the Switch yet?

Zach is true and honest and is the guy Cloud and the weebs wish they were.
Cloud is elevated by the quality of his story. Zack is not and is a trojan horse for the intrusive compilation I say I say!
Really I guess it’s just not hard to like Zack but Crisis Core somehow accomplishes the impossible and makes it hard. But I could see how someone disagrees.

also almost $80 for emulatable games? Square Enix’s pricing model for this and other rereleases convinces me they are just trying to rinse their long time fans who will never leave.

I played almost every FF game from 1 to 10, except 8. I mostly like the older SNES era FF games, and also FF9, because it's a tribute to older games. But FF10 is also hard to say no to, for one simple reason. Lulu's big and bouncy mommy milkers.

Think they are waiting to see how they do, I mean stuff like FF9 remasters didn't come to consoles till after PC. Also wouldn't be shocked if they did a retail collection for the Final Fantasy 35th anniversary next year.
"Remasters" they say😂😂😂!
If you were to put these "Remasters" with the OG PS1 game upscaled in a good PS1 emulator side by side, you probably wouldn't see much of a difference. And the Japs at SE expect you to pay 25 euro for a game whose PS1 ISO file is easy to find and that can be ran in a PS1 emulator. At least give voice acting, it would especially be cool with the Italian translation where the characters speak in various Italian dialects.

SE did do a shit job remasters, however, FF9 has a great fan mod now which makes it the best way to play it.

Aren't texture packs a thing for PS1 and newer consoles? I am pretty sure that's another alternative.
I know for other consoles they are, but not sure about ps1, however even if it was a ps1 emulator that could do that doesn't mean it could run this mod. But just crazy fans have to come out with a patch to make FF9 remaster a true remaster. Most Square Enix FF remasters are just updating the models and adding cheats such as speed up with little care added to anything else.

patrician gentleman's choice.
10 objectively has the best Shiva summon, also.

I always liked the Wind Fiend from 4. This Shiva is almost the ice version of that.

As said before, there are new saving features, an autosave if you dun guf, and like in 3d version after you defeat a dark crystal boss, you can restore your HP/MP after talking to the dark crystal.
I probably made a mistake, some say that Cloud of Darkness can do normal attacks but in the playthrough I saw it spammed Particle Beam all the time, the party was 2 Ninjas, 1 Devout and a Sage and used 8 shurukens. Beat it at level 50-51. The 4 sub bosses are probably nerfed, the Two Headed Dragon could KO party members in one hit but in the this playthrough, members survived with sub-10% life except for one time.
It isn't as hard as the NES version, but I think it's harder than 3D. Resources weren't a problem with 25 elixirs saved up.

FF3 has some odd gameplay mechanics. Not good or bad, just odd. Like the splitting enemies that split with regular attacks aside from dark weapons and magic. Pretty exploitable for level grinding with auto battle though.

Managed to order a PS5 and a copy of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, is there anything I should know before going in?

Yes, I know the game takes... "liberties" with its story compared to the original, but I want to know how the gameplay differs to the original beyond the obvious combat change (I finished it on the Switch a couple of months back, and quite enjoyed most of it).
