Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Every regular in this thread is the reason masks and the vaccines aren't working as well as they could be.
Lockdowns and mask mandates work, but real lockdowns and mask mandates have never been tried
There were those graphs of reported cases before and after the mandates in multiple countries earlier in this thread.

It looks like the masks don't really make a difference, as the number of cases always increased afterwards.

So if I'm curious enough to get tested and find out whether I've had it or not, what would be the most accurate test to take? I'm in the US for reference.
I got mine at Ralphs (Krogers?) for $25. But my family members got $60 ones at some private clinic. Not sure about the accuracy, but the more expensive ones seem to have made the family members' doctor happy.

What baffles me is that the same people who are always going on about how destructive human beings are and how we are destroying the planet and overpopulation is a massive threat are now suddenly worried about saving every single person on the planet. Aren't pandemics really just nature's way of thinning the herd? If a billion people were wiped out, wouldn't it ultimately be better for the planet and the survivors in general since it would ease a lot of the problems that we face from overpopulation and global warming?

It's funny (depressing) to me that all of the people pretending to be for the environment, protesting plastic straws and saying things like, "The planet will be fine. It's the people who will go extinct" did a 180 overnight when covid happened and are now totally onboard with single-use plastic everything for "sanitation". When the the rubber meets the road, they care about THEIR safety and nothing else. Planet and other people be damned.

It seems that people like this don't care if you follow all of the rules and do whatever the gubbamint says. It's not about actually wearing the mask, getting the vaccine, etc.
It's all about the Belief in Science™. If you don't Believe in the vaccine, in the power of the mask, it negates the Good that doing those rituals is supposed to do.
It really is like ye olde Christianity. Even if you say your prayers, say bless you, go to church, etc, it doesn't matter if your Belief in God is even a little weak. You're still an evil heretic, and it's your fault the crops are failing and little Billy turned gay.
I've been thinking this especially since seeing the difference in rural vs urban places with mask wearing, keeping distance. The more liberal the place, the more people don't fucking keep their distance at all and wear their masks with their noses out or on their chins. In rural places, when the mask mandates were actually going, the rules were largely followed, I'm going to assume almost entirely out of politeness.
But it doesn't matter if you do the rituals if you Believe, if you post on social media that you hope the heretics die.

Not to mention all the god damn surgical masks blowing in the wind, go back to the creek to fish and you'll see dozens of them tangled up in tree roots and limbs in the water.

I believe Johnsons and other heads of country, have been threatened with their lives and their families lives.

The international co-ordination of all singing from the same hymn sheets is not organic. Hell, after 9/11, France and a few other countries wouldn't go in to Iraq, that was mainly a UK/US affair.

Yet the coof? Everyone is in lockstep. The dissenters are either assassinated or failing that, dragged through the mud in the media. Bolsonaro is a good example. The riots in Cuba are nothing to do with freedom, and all to do with COVID
anyone else notice how boris johnson got (really) "sick" with "COVID" right after he refused to lock down in the beginning and he's now getting "sick" with "COVID" again after he lifted the rest of the restrictions

Someone I visit regularly lives around the corner from a supermarket and I've never seen the area filthier. Every time I go over the garden is covered in disposable masks and gloves that people just throw on the ground as they walk out the door.

It's funny watching normies try to break through their conditioning when you present them with reality, only for them to double down and hold strong in their belief that you are the crazy one, because they don't want to believe they've been duped this whole time.

Friend was initially dragging his heels about getting the vaccine. Don't know whether it was laziness or whether what I was saying was casting some doubt in his mind, but he ended up getting it eventually. Not long after this, I asked him whether he'd get the booster shots they'd inevitably roll out as the vaccines aren't offering long-term protection (this was before they announced boosters for the vulnerable), and he just had this deer in headlights look at the prospect and didn't really answer me. He really looked like he regretted getting the first jab. No worries, though, he soon got back on Twitter to read about how terrible anti-vaxxers are and went straight back to criticising me, pushing our discussion out of his mind.

Did I say it was funny? Just frustrating, really.

It's frustrating when people with absolutely no science background try to educate you on 'how science works'. Said friend just pasted the limitations section of a study I'd sent him about the efficacy (the lack thereof) of using masks. He didn't even read the study, he didn't even read the limitations section, just found it and pasted it to me and considered the study useless. One of the limitations of the study was the lack of blinding. Like, no shit, pretty fucking easy to tell if you're in the mask group or not! Just no thought given to the actual weight and impact such limitations may or may not have on the conclusions you can draw.

Idiots like this are shouting the loudest, and people love to lap it all up. I get it. Any evidence showing what a farce this has all been needs to be quashed immediately, lest their whole worldview is upheaved and thrown into question. Just a shame this seems to be most people's thinking, at least round my part of Bongistan anyway.

I swear if this is legit I'll be so fucking pissed. Assuming this stuff works, they'll just say it's a revolutionary new medicine without being specific on what's in it and jerk themselves off with the idea that they saved the world. If the only reason why we're still in this shit is cause of pharmacunt greed and a panicked reaction from chickenshit politicians some of them should fucking hang for this.

Well, it's pretty much confirmed that COVID-19 is causing peroxynitrite formation and possible NOS uncoupling. They've found high serum nitrotyrosine, a sign of peroxynitrite.

Sorry if this is late but do you have any sort of science or medical background? You seem to be able to parse concepts pretty well but you seem to be lacking the actual background knowledge and experience that allow people to contextualize and sort out the good information from the bad (like, believing stories about people's skin being magnetic is not a good sign). Which to me reads as 'someone who is interested in reading scientific articles about a subject but without an actual background in it.' Nothing wrong with that, I do it myself for some subjects I am interested in, but you should let other people in the thread know that you are a layperson for the sake of disclosure.

I was going to Google "backlash effect", which basically means that even if you present someone with evidence they will just double down even harder because they consider it an attack on them and their group instead of a discussion.

Instead, I got this:

What the fuck is this? So now backlash on wikipedia is now defined as being a right-wing racist/homophobe? When the fuck did this happen?

If you don't have a blood pressure problem, google "whitelash".

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but the province of Quebec recently announced its intentions to implement a vaccine passport system:

MONTREAL -- Quebec plans to adopt a vaccine passport given a recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the province, Premier François Legault announced Thursday.

[...]

Legault said "certain privileges" will be extended to people who are adequately vaccinated against the virus, which has killed 11,240 people in Quebec since the start of the pandemic.

They will be restricting access to many businesses for people who have not been vaccinated. Manitoba has implemented a passport system already, but only for access to care homes and such. The media is extolling the virtues of vaccine passports and promoting surveys that supposedly show widespread support for them, but this is obviously propaganda. In British Columbia, where I live, the government claims to have no plans for a vaccine passport, which naturally means they are actively considering it. This new development of internal vaccine passports might be crossing the Rubicon in Canada. In my province at least, we already live in a medical dictatorship because the government has deferred all policy to the determinations of the provincial health officer, Der Fuhrer Dr. Bonnie Henry, sort of a local Fauci. I don't know how bad these mass human rights violations have to get before serious opposition gets going.

We’re way beyond clown world. We’re clearly living in demon world now.

👹

I’m an atheist, but I’ll be damned if the past few years haven’t come closer to converting me than anything else in my entire life. The uniform lockstep bizarre behavior of the infected (not with COVID, with the brainworms) is so outside anything I would’ve expected from humanity. How can they ALL agree about such INSANE things? People doubt. They change their minds. They look around and go ok, now this is too much, let’s back up and think. But the woke...that doesn’t happen. Human minds being uniform and immovable like that is just beyond comprehension as a natural occurrence. It is constructed. I just don’t know who the architect is.
