Each state has different laws. If it is Virginia, you can go to women's jail as long as you get the chop. If you didn't (like Chris) you get sent to male jail.

This drives me crazy. I have a friend who is really into the whole trans rights respect the pronoun thing, and she used male pronouns for Chris and said he wasn't "really" trans. Chris has been doing this almost ten years, got prescribed hormones, and got female pronouns on all his legal documents. There's absolutely no reason to consider him less trans than anyone else, except that it's inconvenient.
