If you have enough DNA to do nuclear DNA comparison, you can more or less conclusively state to a high degree of certainty, well beyond a reasonable doubt, that it came from a specific person and not anyone else on the planet. It's only mitochondrial DNA from degraded samples that has you assigning probabilities less than 99.999999 a zillion 9s%."Similar DNA"... you're an idiot. At best Cole might be a possible suspect if he shares the same father as Chris (read: they'll have the same Y-Chromosomal DNA).
This was the case in the O.J. case but the defense was improperly allowed to argue that somehow the comparison wasn't nearly a dead certainty, although they also had the fact that the prosecution's witnesses fell down on the job eliminating the possibility of it having been planted there by some dishonest (Fuhrman) cop.
