The big difference with him and Cuomo is that the Democrats are circling the wagons around Newsom and he doesn't really have a convenient excuse to throw him under the bus like Cuomo does. He is somewhat aware he could potentially be in trouble which is why he's implementing ballot brrring from home, promising a second California stimulus and backing off on renewed statewide mask mandates, vaccine mandates and more lockdowns. If things continue the way they have been I expect him to win by a comfortable but not overwhelming majority, and if Larry Elder somehow makes it in I expect him to be neutered worse than Trump was because there's no way the deep blue state apparatus will work with him on anything. I'm keep an autistic lens on this whole recall, and all Newsom and NO voters have are "the recall is a waste of taxpayer money" (nice hill to die on there considering California's nothing but taxes and waste) and "a Trump-backed effort" (Blumpf hasn't even made a shitty endorsement yet, and all the candidates have distanced themselves from him in some fashion).

Inflation to get steadily worse and worse over time putting people in a desperate enough position where they're not going to accept frog boiling anymore. I don't think we're at the point quite yet but we are getting there and trust in pretty much every American institution is eroding enough for it. Still requires a dedicated cadre of people to really get the ball rolling though and I don't know that one actually exists that doesn't glow in the dark.

I've tried to moderate who in my social circle I express my real political views to but even making jokes about us heading to the dumb nanny state dystopia in Demolition Man has always been treated with mild derision.

Sure and it wont ever happen. Plenty of red state governors would call up their National Guard along with the local police forces which will gladly defend their state. The separation of state and federal still exists despite the Establishments hatred of it. You saw it during Trumps tenure with Sanctuary cities and you see it with Governors handling the border crisis. The US Armed forces can not be deployed against their own people. Logistically and morally it woukd be disastrous on top of bringing the ire of the International Community.

Look...you must live in a major population zone. Those folks are so demoralized they could literally be locked in their homes and given air drops to their building roof tops with little to no issue. The peoblem will always be enforcement all over the country in rural places. On top of that the govt workers outside of small cities would have to be onboard which is doubtful from my experiences.

What is going to happen is the next round of lockdowns coupled with vaccine passports coming to major cities will absolutely cause chimpouts. I read a story a few weeks back about a black dude pulling a gun because his fries were too salty. The tag line at the bottom mentioned a shootout over hot sauce on a sandwich in Kentucky. You dont have to worry about anything. Plenty of ghetto morons living in the "high class city" will be told they need to show their papers or fuck off. They will fuck off with guns and we will get content provided through our screens.
