The way that's worded suggests that they can provide services to bolster law enforcement (eg, equipment) but can't sling Federal troops directly. Unless they're Coast Guard, I think. I'm pretty sure they're exempt from the Posse Comitatus act.
Of course they wouldn't. They would be far more likely, however, to act to quell domestic violence or gun down domestic terrorists. Removing bad apples to save the barrel, all that stuff. This isn't to say that I think the military is filled with bloodthirsty maniacs waiting for their chance to shoot us, just that, if it comes down to it, the presentation's going to be at least ambiguous enough that it's not immediately clear exactly what they're doing.

Back when California actually had a conservative population, Gray Davis was recalled due to the disaster of rolling blackouts. That led to Schwarzenegger who turned out to be a limp noodle governor and was succeeded by Newsom. Californian conservatives, seeing as how they were losing political power anyways, left the state which is why the state is overwhelmingly NPC.

Now multiply that by 1000 for attacking Americans with their own military force. Not only Veterans but "the best and the brightest" are not joining the Military on top of desertion. The average soldier can exist within the infrastructure the military life provides. The few that are trained to be special forces are not liberal people. Its almost impossible to be a bleeding heart liberal while also specializing in camping out in the woods to kill people. Id also be willing to bet the people that push their body into the special forces mold have an extreme love for their family and by extension country. Family would come first and only a brainwashed few would commit to "The Party".
