The only thing I hate more than the social media companies doing this is the nigger cattle that it doesn't even seem to phase. Looking forward to how the Taliban deal with defending large civilian populations and fixed bases against a decades-long insurgency. It's a lot easier to bring down a government than it is to run a country, especially if a big chunk of the population you govern wants you dead.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the war continues in some form-maybe a renewed northern alliance or some sort of urban based anti Taliban rebellion coalesces with foreign support.

Then again, it’s questionable how much any of what we see or hear is true, fog of war and all.

Probably more ruthlessly than the US did. Then again the taliban have never been the ones doing counter insurgency. I imagine that anti Taliban rebellions will be a major source of continuing strife for years to come.

Ultimately the Taliban’s biggest challenge I think will be that the country has gone a generation without them in charge. Afghan children born in late 2001 have never known taliban rule, in urban areas where the country was most cosmopolitan(for what that means in Afghanistan) and connected to the outside world-the taliban will likely find a population that is sullen and disrespectful if not utterly rebellious.

How they deal with this-will determine the longevity of their rule.

Both Russia and China want peace in Afghanistan. Russia is making strong moves to remove US influence throughout the region. Any flareups in violence or fighting risks giving the US neocons excuses for more US bases in the surrounding countries. China of course wants Afghanistan stable and peaceful for their Belt and Road and the vast mineral resources.

The Taliban is systematically purging the country of foreign powers to instigate uprisings or other forms trouble. The NGOs and personnel are being purged which are the main instrument for countries like the US to destabilize.

There is no viable counter force in the country. The Taliban have taken over 100 percent of the country with the single exception of the airport the foreigners are trapped at. And guns that are in the hands of non-Taliban are being seized.

Just a lay opinion, but I believe Afghanistan will be the single most stable country in the entire region and almost completely invulnerable to outside meddling.

  1. Contact everyone who will need to leave the country seven months ago
  2. Start to move people into existing secured areas
  3. Get as many non-essential people out of the country flight by flight over the months
  4. As Trump's phased withdrawal plan moves forward, ensure all US and other personnel are safely out of the new Taliban controlled areas
  5. Any weapons that can't be safely moved out of the new Taliban areas are destroyed
  6. As the deadline approaches, only a skeleton crew of US staff should be remaining in the secured US areas or bases

all of afghanistans neighbors (iran tajikistan turkmenistan pakistan china) are stabls tbh, afghanistan is the only real problem area in the region
and im not sure about taliban afghanistan becoming very stable tbh, lots of potential for ethnic strife (taliban are kinda pashtun supremacist)

Apparently there is some remote valley that the last remnants of their opposition have fled towards. Also I think there are pockets of resistance elsewhere.

The US is definitely going to want to see the taliban crumble, and the Iranians will be very reticent to be too friendly given that the Taliban have persecuted the Hazaras in the past.

Do I think a new war will start soon? No, but l do think that organically or otherwise anti Taliban elements will emerge, whether their successful or not is a different matter entirely.
