Probably not unless they zerg rush the place with more fighters than they probably have on hand. Conventionally, you want at least three to one in favor of the attacker to guarantee success, when your boys are guerilla troops not exactly used to storming areas in the face of heavy resistance I would say you'd want at least four or five to one, plus as much armor as you could scrounge. The other option would be all-out bombardment with every mortar and artillery piece they can get, but I'm assuming they want the airport intact. If they don't they could destroy the runways and try and starve the Americans out, but idk how that would go.

Destroying a runway is harder than it sounds. US has specialists there already with supplies for quick repairs.

The populace isn’t fully cowed yet, and the airport is a hard target. A convoy is a relatively soft target and it’s risking them getting killed and creating a bigger fucking political shitstorm. It’s politics and I fucking hate it but that’s how it is.

Lol at airfield "attack" when Soviets were leaving. That was pretty much SOP any day. Goatfuckers lob a bunch of mortars and disappear, nothing out of the ordinary.

iirc the USSR realized they were wasting resources propping up a government that was useless (just like the one US was propping up) and the war was taking a toll on its military. They did leave a lot of materiel behind, Afghanistan is peppered with burnt out Soviet tanks everywhere and munitions were used against out troops.

All armies do, after Iraq a whole shitload of just construction equipment was left to rot because it's not worth it to haul it back. It's beat to shit, tank tracks wear out stupid fast in the mountains and start looking like polished, flat steel.

US bought up the bulk of equipment that went to goatfuckers. Most of the AKs there are Egyptian and Syrian origin, because it was the easiest rout for CIA to supply their allies at the time. Goatfuckers didn'r care for ARs so glowing had to jump through hoops to get those in.

The Taliban must be too since they're taking pains to not get into it with the soldiers at the airport.

And the US has had barely any soldiers there for a year and the Taliban didn't make a move until they all pulled back to the airport so there were none left with the Afghan National Army soldiers at all.

Taliban made sure to wait to attack until the chances of their encountering Americans in combat were as close to zero as could be.

It's pretty sad cause one of the only good things you could say about America is that it's military is the strongest in the world. Sure that's probably still true, but even if you have the biggest fucking guns in the world if you don't have the will to use it it's basically a big expensive paperweight.
