Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

He's down to 870k now. It's amazing. I don't understand this constant steady drain though. I mean surely everybody must know he's trooned out by now, why don't they all unsubscribe at once?
Some people have a ton of subscriptions and Jim uploads so infrequently that it's easily missed in youtube's horrible subscription layout. This is just a guess but if true the fact that so many people forget they're subscribed to him is funny to me as well.

Others are simply pre-subscribed.

What's primarily killing Jim's channel is the spending months at a time only tangentially talking about video games lately that's done it. Everyone's limit is a bit different for how long they can tolerate a gaming channel refusing to discuss video games and then clearly loathing them and the people who play them when he actually does. Even his simps and pigs send him apologetic "I have to stop watching for my mental health" notes before unsubscribing, not to mention how he lashes out at people who used to be his audience and who could probably be lured back if he only bothered asking them what they want (I.e., talk about video games, like actual video games, not human resources gossip about video game companies)

He's become anti-entertainment in an entertainment space and not in the ironic way that Neil Hamburger does it

I hope he drives his some of his remaining viewers away by spending a month claiming that it's sexism killing his channel because nobody had a problem with him talking about this stuff when he was a man

This. Occasionally I discover I am still subbed to someone I long since came to loath and stopped watching, because the rest of my subs drown them out in my feeds. I just unsubbed from someone I haven't watched in 7 years today because I never noticed I was still subbed.

There isn't enough interesting video games related news for one man to do a weekly show on so every video ends up feeling like déjà vu.
The thing is there actually is, plenty in fact; it's just Jim refuses to focus on anything but the same tiny handful of topics. Once again taking the opportunity to shout out my main man Spawnwave, who manages to do a daily news roundup covering various topics (releases, controversies, leaks etc) AND does more editorial videos on specific topics he has a greater interest in.

Jim could easily adopt this format and pivot his content if he wanted to --he actually used to do shorter news videos on stories that didn't merit a JQ, but they just stopped for some reason-- while injecting his unique brand of humour and I think it would do wonders for his channel, but the problem is that would require him to actually give a shit about video games again, when all he really wants to do nowadays is bitch.

I think another big nail in Jim's XXXL coffin that doesn't get discussed much is that trends have shifted: People don't want the Irrationally Angry Gamer Man schtick anymore. Yahtzee gets away with it because he's still funny and it's clear he doesn't actually hate most of what he reviews, but Jim is genuinely angry and I don't think audiences wanna watch a sheltered white guy screaming into his mic any more. Probably because they've grown up and now realise how utterly unimportant video games actually are.

Ashens appearing in that "special" made me lose a lot of respect for him. He is usually good about not getting involved in online drama.

I will be curious to see how low Jim goes until he resorts to buying subs. I am only half kidding here.
Honestly, I unsubscribed to ashen after nearly a decade of being a fan over him appearing in that. Not just because he appeared in it, but for the actual content he said. Completely destroyed my interest in one of the only youtubers who has managed to maintain a “no actual topic” channel

Upper echelon also does pretty frequent half hours about gaming related and not actually gaming content, from a pretty ideologically opposite pov as fat James. Jim could conceivably just do response videos on how upper echelon's interpretation is wrong on each topic covered and have several gami ng related videos a week

I would love to see Jim attempt to revive the commentary community on YouTube by constantly pausing and critiquing other gaming YouTubers, but I have a feeling that just like his current content it would quickly devolve into 'you're wrong because capitalism bad' or 'cis white man therefore opinions discarded' AKA the cancer that killed all other commentary communities (aside from them being generally cringe and autistic, I mean).

Do you think he'll start getting desperate enough to devolve into a controversy clickbait channel?
We're already there, it's just the controversies he kvetches about are dumb and boring so nobody cares and he's too lazy to upload enough to become clickbait.

Been a while since I read through this thread. Last time there was a flicker of optimism that he *might* have started to realize that his constant whining about tranny opression and bitching about how games suck was making people lose interest in his channel. I come back, and lol. He went right back into that shit. Nothing learned, just a little break from the tedium.

Fair to say that he's never going to change his formula. As long as the patreon shekels keep coming in, he'll keep going. Makes me curious what Jim's future is going to be like, actually. How is he going to react to that continuing bleed of subscribers?

Apathy or they've forgotten they're subscribed to him. Nothing more to it than that.

Jim always struck me as almost entirely isolated. Last I knew he's in Pennsylvania with no local friends or family and I scarcely saw him associating with other internet personalities except that shrieking abomination LKD, all of which feels odd to me considering his name recognition and past influence. You'd think he'd be pretty well networked.
Yeah, but why would anyone want to talk to or spend time with him? He just seems so utterly miserable at all times. Even Yahtzee has shown he can be standoffish, but a fun talk. As someone said yesterday. He had a friend start him into interacting with others.

He doesn't even need to do the commentary community format to get back to talking about video games. Just wait for other people's videos so they can do research and find topics, then do the opposite take because socialism is so great. And a lazy fuck like him can't even do that, he has to spend months uploading non video game related content once a week with Justin's retarded editing that he allegedly pays good money for. There are so many simple things aside from not appearing on camera that he could do to reverse the subscriber loss

The only thing that would get me, a non-fan to start watching his videos, is if he started to butt heads with or start drama with youtubers like ProJared, that cosplayer Holly he cheated with, AVGN, OneyPlays, etc. Even if it's only one-sided, I would watch the shit out of him angrily flailing at more successful game-related people and them just ignoring him. Even better if other creators like Quartering or Clownfish notice and report on it.

It's not just the repetition, it's also the inflated self-importance. The whole attitude just reeks of slacktivism. Like any CEO raking in millions is gonna change anything about that because of a fat tranny screeching on youtube. And people disagreeing with Jim generally aren't watching his video's, so he's just screeching at people who already agree with him on this, changing absolutely nothing at all. And yet he has this attitude of changing the world, the self-satisfied smug smile.

On this week's Jimquisition, it shows once again how incredibly thin-skinned Jim is. He always loves to proclaim himself as "thick-skinned, but worn down" but there have been so many examples of Jim spotlighting a single negative comment and making something completely about him "being attacked". He also made an ass of himself trying to defend Phil Fish, claiming the same thing again that Phil was very thick-skinned, but worn down by the continuing bullies on the internet. Nevermind that Fish is a notoriously toxic person and actively gets into fights that are completely avoidable... hmmmm almost sounds like someone who might be currently torpedoing his own channel...

Rule #1 of the internet has always been don't feed the trolls, but Jim has always actively force-fed the trolls and then whined about the trolls taking his lunch money.

That, and he's a relic of the early days of youtube, when all you needed to get popular was a tripod, a voice that wasn't annoying and some mediocre video editing skills. Even if Jim wanted to shift to making different kinds of videos, he'd be late any genre he tried to join and would immediately be starting from the bottom of a very large pile of people who are a lot better at their jobs than he is. The only reason he's as well known as he is for gaming news videos is because he got in early when the competition was a lot smaller.

Lets say for instance that Jim started replacing every other Jimquisition video with more positive game reviews where he talks about games he actually likes. Even if he had the motivation to do this, he'd immediately be put in competition with the likes of Yahtzee and I doubt this would do anything to slow the death of his channel.
