TGWTG The Spoony One / Spoony / Noah Antwiler and Rachel Baker / @RaeAngel07 - The touching romance between a washed-up videogame reviewer throwing a decade-long pity party and his delusional Canuck stalker. #weaknotsick #donttellmehowtosulk

Part of the reason why Spoony made the move to Illinois was because it put him practically on Doug's and Brad's doorsteps, and reasonably close to Linkara - and in that respect that move did initially work out for him, as he started making appearances in their videos again after two years mostly doing his own stuff.

If he'd made smart use of the chance to start more directly collaborating with the CA team, the move could have really paid off for him. Instead, he did the complete opposite, started driving everybody away, and before he knew it, found himself fucked seven ways from Sunday.
Collaborating with the CA team and paying off... well these days we know long term that's not the case. But regarding driving off yet another social group, it's almost like the same pattern with everything else. I actually wonder about that IT job or whatever it was that his dad got for him before he got fired after a couple of months. He can't handle groups of people without driving them off, having to do it for 40 or more hours a week? He probably managed to piss off the entire department he was in without realizing it. In any other environment (like a game night or two every week) he probably could have stretched that out to a year before getting the boot from a group.

And don't forget he even got fired as a freelance writer for that knights of the dinner table thing because enough readers complained about him even after they added the joke "cut here to remove this from your issue if you don't like it" bit on the edge.

That's not true. It was purely because April refused to come to Arizona. Spoony himself said being close to CA had nothing to do with it and considering he never collaborated on content with any of them while there I'm inclined to believe him.

What did he write that got him fired?

I pasted somewhere links to Spooner's fanfics of Highlander and to be frank i could barely force myself to read descriptions of these stories but at least the stories are long deleted and forgotten in the sands of time. In several videos he was blathering he was a reviewer in magazine but I can't recall if he ever mentioned in one of the episodes that it was some nerdy magazine for small clique.

Anyway, many people would like to make money by writing stuff for somebody but the competition and reality of writing is totally different that people imagine. I was a blogger for few years and I have reached several IT-related websites interested in cooperation. The moment I logged to Wordpress publication form I lost any intention to pursue in career of freelancing writer. For some reason they wanted 70% in active voice (in polish articles written that way sounds biased) and touching specific topics (to choose from Excel spreadsheet with scheduled topics on incoming week). The days of writing stuff you liked to touch were long gone and I had to force myself to focus entirely on topics that were just to fill holes between main topics. Salary was hilariously small and it was considered rather as side-job and not as full-time thing. People liked reading my entries on my blog but that doesn't pay bills so fuck that. It sounds neat to enter cafe, open laptop and spend entire day just mashing keyboard and make money that way but you need to be exceptional. There are hundreds wanna-be writers pouring diarrhea of dogshit entries on blogs and just few that actually know how to write stuff.

Nothing in particular. They ran reader polls and Noah's segment was consistently dead last so they cut him.
He uploaded those old text reviews to the website. They're honestly not bad.

My guess is Dinner Table's audience was not receptive to Noah making fun of stuff they like. Cinema Snob was a reaction to that sort of stuffy film criticism.

My guess is Dinner Table's audience was not receptive to Noah making fun of B-movies. Cinema Snob was a reaction to that sort of in-your-face film criticism.
I was going to add: Spoony also had a reputation for being a pissy internet tough guy on the Kenzerco (the publisher's) forums, getting into regular arguments and being banned all the time which probably didn't influence the readership's opinion of him positively. It's deep Spoony lore so I don't have any screenshots but I have seen one where he's lying about how he could kick the other poster's ass because he lifts regularly.

I've actually come to think his time on the Kenzerco forums (which by the way is the reason he started making video content) helped shape him into the thin-skinned egotist he was when managing his own community. He was bitter about getting banned and then fired and then suddenly he had the power.

Here's you go. It's not really any different than his video reviews, other than just being 2 page walls of whiny text that people apparently didn't like paying for. https://www.reddit.com/r/thespoonyexperiment/wiki/articles/knights-of-the-dinner-table
You can see the joke I mentioned on the edge of the page starting in the battlestar galactica article, and at the end of the one for the crystal skull the editor finally admits they realize how much people don't like him. It's not even that I disagree with his overall opinions about the movies and some of the TV shows, but actually sitting there reading those is kind of a slog and I certainly wouldn't want to know I just paid money for that.

Now that I didn't know. Of course it shouldn't be surprising considering it's spoony we're talking about.

Even then he still managed to be a mopey ass

Oh, at least parts of them are still around.

Even in 2005 they were posting threads wanting him gone even after he was banned... sheesh. https://www.kenzerco.com/forums/showthread.php?12737-Remove-Spoony-from-KoDT
People practically cheering his article was gone, although he did have some fans at least.

I knew that Jedi story played out differently that his countermonkey video. I suspect it wasn't exactly like posted either. Probably another instance of the DM just saying "fuck it" and retconning him and those events out of the game.

In 20+ years of gaming myself, I've only ever seen this twice and one of those was a time I killed another player's character after the entire table basically wanted the player(not just the character) gone from the game and I only did it in direct retaliation to his character attacking mine like an idiot. Bragging about constantly getting into PvP in what is effectively a co-operative game and sometimes even having to find a new group isn't really normal.

Just like I thought, a bunch of his stories were actually from long before TSE, and he was as much of an ass then as he was later. He just couldn't ban people and delete posts at the time.

Months :story: If that was the case I would say that it means he can hold normal job. Or that at least he could do it in the past.
He was fired(or resigned himself, who knows - I know he mentions it but Noah is not even close to be a reliable source of information) after few days

And that's why it's not even on his linkedin page

Also, that page is really depressing. It would be fine for a guy in his early 20's, but he is fucking 40. If I was him I would delete that page out of shame, but that's what, like 5 minutes of work? I quess that's too much for our old Spoonster.
Maybe it's good that his linkedin page still exists, it should be an example for teens/young people that school and work ethic is important, and just because you are moderately famous on the Internet now, it doesn't mean it will be like that forever, and you should always have plan B.
And some useful skills.
And life outside Internet.

Nah, I doubt that means he can hold a normal job. I've seen mention of it lasting 2-3 months. About 1 month in something outside of fast food you can still make allowances for the new guy especially when they're young. But if he really was a toxic asshat to everyone in the office I can see people getting fed up with him before he realized what the problem was. Or it could even be that his father asked him to quit due to embarassment after getting the job. But yeah, I doubt we'll ever get the real story there.

Angry Alejandro and Nostalgia chick also popped up when I looked at spoony's linkedin. These people don't care, they know they're at dead ends. Hell, both of them still have CA producer as their main title.

What could spoony actually update his linkedin with? He can't even claim to have been a video producer/editor for the past 6 or so years now. And anyone doing a basic search about him is going to see that he's just a raging asshole anyway. Deleting it really wouldn't make a difference at this point. At best he might be able to land some crappy retail gig, and that's only assuming his parents or brother force him into it.

Hey, dumbass...

If you ignore the DM when he tells you what kind of game it is, what the fuck do you think will happen?
Well that would require not being such a self important know it all like spoony. Dude can't read a room, can't get a clue even when someone beats him over the head with it.

Even then he still managed to be a mopey ass
He hasn't advanced an inch, has he? Abusive, rageaholic, and anti-therapy for what's going on 20 years now.

I'd be sympathetic if his family wasn't reasonably rich. There is no reason for all this fury.

Out of the question. He'll threaten suicide before he demeans himself by working with the public.

Well, if you consider that he said in his star wars game story he was 17, and was a know it all mopey asshat who couldn't get along with people then, and he was born in '80? That's closer to 25 years now that he's still stuck with the same mentality he had in highschool. He's only going to get worse when his emotional support dog eventually kicks the bucket.

Possible powerlevel: I was reading the magazine at the time. My take is that the reviews weren't bad, but he spent very little time talking about them from a gaming perspective, which is kind of important in a gaming magazine.

Despite the fact the title of the column was Gamer's Guide to Movies.

Didn't spend time on the forums, but I doubt he used them to make himself more popular.

"A gamer's rant on movies", but yeah the articles have fuck all to do with gaming except for being tangentially related to genres that a variety of games are based on.
