If the White House is apparently staffed by West Wing LARPers now I wonder how many low level employees in the major cable news networks watched Newsroom and thought 'Wow.... this is literally me!'
Newsroom is widely reviled by the left for a bunch of reasons:
1. The pilot's notorious opening sequence where Sorkin called out the millennial/zoomer as the cancer killing America and the general fair weather patriotism where the left was all gung ho being super patriotic simply because Obama was elected.
2. The main character is basically a milquetoast center right Republican who's the liberal wet dream when it comes to "the dream conservative": pro-gay, anti-gun, pro-drug,and anti-religious right and who's big thing was/is the fact that he desperately wants to be loved by the shallow NPC rootless cosmopolitan crowd, to the point that his career amounted to running a prime time version of pop culture infotainment when the show starts.
3. A LOT of the storylines kind of shit on the left: the "name a rapist without any proof website" storyline in particular, since it ended with a reporter successfully shaming the webmaster into shutting it down by calling out how she was letting vindictive bitches falsely accuse men of rape and the whole "better to let a hundred guilty men go free than imprison a single innocent man" notion
4. West Wing had a bunch of well known character actors on the show. while Newsroom had a bunch of unknowns as the rank and file reporters who sucked balls, as most of the budget for the show went to cast Waterson, Wilde, Fonda, and Bridges.
5. Finally, Newsroom was a show that actually showed consequences for being a liberal douche; most notably the
"American Taliban" speech put Bridges and his circle on the corporate shit list and they were even, IIRC, barred from being involved in a big 9-11 tenth anniversary retrospective that they were supposed to put together/host.
